We are going to take our dogs cage...he has had this since we bought him home as a puppy and he loves it...(one of the best things we ever did)..We are hoping the cage will fit in the bedroom pod...cant have him bouncing me out of my aero bed, can I ....he is not a small dog...In fact even within his breed he is very tall...we have a Boxer !

My old Springer(sadly gone now)Was really good at night and used to sleep in the living area of the tent on her own bed with an extra blanket and never moved all night.
New Springer is a little less steady(in all respects) and sleeps in the sleeping area in her own bed at the foot of my bed..where she soon settles..
Daughters Jack Russel cross came with us for the 1st time last year...From past experience we knew he was going to be a bit of a nightmare...so took the dog cage for him..He was actually fine at night..During the day was a different story with him growling and barking at passers by..Found if we put him in the cage with his view blocked he was ok..Think he might have been on some sort of guarding type thingy..Protecting us and the tent from all comers sort of thing!!!
By the way I fully agree with campsite rules that ALL dogs are kept on a lead or tethered at all times..Loose dogs on a campsite (however well behaved or trained) are a recipe for disaster or arguement between owners and neighbours

If your dogs' farts are that offensive, it might be worth looking at what you're feeding them. Often the well-known brands which feature heavily on TV advertising and are packaged in the boldest colours, at eye-level on supermarket shelves are full of very poor quality ingredients, which will make your dog flatulent and keen to search out something better from your camp kitchen. We feed our dogs Naturediet and that keeps both 'wind' and scavenging down to a bare minimum, so we can comfortably share our sleeping pod with them. I wouldn't fancy bedding down with a dog fed Bakers, Pedigree, Beta, Wag or similar brands Hope this helps!
We have been working on his diet and he has definatley improved in the flatulence area, though like everyone else he has moments when he can empty a room .
I'm not sure we'll have the same quick success with the scavenging - I know a few people who own black labs and it seems a common feature.

Haha - Ruby is black lab x cocker and she certainly looks for anything going! Particular favourites are pasta and curry! Luckily she doesn't suffer a windy problem - must have a constitution of iron - so shares my tent. If backpacking this can be very cosy
LOl Pags that brilliant website - we'll certainly be keeping tabs on you and Ruby and may possibly see you as we spend a lot of time out in the Peak District.

Hi,

Excellent advice.
My boy used to unleash guffs of such awesome toxicity we expected a visit from the UN weapons inspectors - I'm sure they came under the category of biological warfare. For unrelated reasons (itchiness), the breeder recommended trying him on a food for working dogs, with a lower protein content.
Not only did it stop him scratching, his weapons of mass destruction became a very rare event.
My wife had the same problem until i changed her diet to a low protein one. The farts are no longer offensive, and she's stopped draging her arse along the ground scratching it!. This practice used to cause some embarasment on sites.
We have a greyhound and she sleeps in with us. She has her own bed but tends to pinch whatever sleeping bag she can as well. We have recently got a springer spaniel who hasn't been camping yet. We will without a doubt have to make room to take her cage. She will use the cage during the day when we are busy cooking etc. I am hoping to fit her cage in our bedroom as well, if shes good then I am happy to leave the cage door open and she will probably snuggle in with the 3 of us, but if she is a pain in the arse she will be put in her cage. We are going to do a test run in the garden overnight and also a local site to see how she is before we go away properly.

Pmsl! I hope she reads this and gives you what for.
