Wow, thank you everyone for such kind feedback.... For anyone who was interested in the Cobb cooker itself, I've posted a couple more up, these are mostly just cooking videos shot at the same time on the campsite, I thought they would be better edited out into separate videos....

The full length version of the beef stew:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pJb5BH9zi3c

And, cooking an omelette on the Cobb:

Thanks again everyone, great to get feedback from other people who "get it" rather than just odd looks from my friends who simply think I'm bonkers for doing it :D

lol - I had worn them while I was pitching and walking in and out of the sleeping area as I don't like traipsing mud in there - but well spotted :P

I wear Crocs with SealSkinz waterproof socks nowadays for cold and/or wet weather camping, and I too would avoid walking onto the tent groundsheet and inner tent with outdoor shoes whenever possible.

The socks are excellent in providing warmth to my feet while keeping them dry at the same time, as I discovered to my cost during Christmas camping trip that cold and soggy feet were very unpleasant.

I can do my bit in minimising the amount of mud I bring into the tent, shame that the dog does not appear to care much about it.

Brilliant video crayfish   I loved the sound of the birds singing in the background while you drank your coffee .  Well now you have braved the harsh elements, there will be no stopping you.

Heh, yes, the whole trip was amazing but sitting out there that morning with the sun coming through the trees and and the birds in full song with the snow all around really has to be the most magical part of camping I've ever experienced - It was also great to push a few personal boundaries and come back from a trip feeling like I've actually accomplished something.

And I really do want to thank everyone here again, non-campers just don't get it and its so lovely that you guys have enjoyed watching my little adventure and can relate to it and post back so many kudos messages :).

Not sure what I'm doing next, I camp at that site all year round, it really is a gem of a place, but I think for a change I may do a spring time wild camp in Scotland, Ive had a trip planned for 2 years but never done it - if I do, I'll do a few more vids :)

Your video brought a BIG SMILE to my face and I've just watched it 3 times. I like simple camping too but have not tried winter - if you brought out an instructional dvd I'd buy it!

Hi Crayfish

Great sleeping bag Iv'e got one as well, was camping this weekend and was warm as toast as well, dont think it was a cold as you though.

Really enjoyed the video I used my cobb as well but with my cast iron stew pot, had tatter ash and red cabbage Friday and chicken Saturday.

I bought a colman black cat heater a few weeks ago that uses propane in the canisters, I didn't actually use it this weekend as had EHU during the evening but switched it off when I went to bed to test the sleeping bag out.
Took it with me more in case the electric went out but would think with it being propane would be ok in cold weather.

Looking forward to your next video's.

Great stuff, you won't regret it - the Cobb roasts a half leg of lamb beautifully. In fact, since I bought my Cobb in December my oven hasn't seen a bit of meat since :)

I would advise getting a meat thermometer with a metal cable that you can leave in your meat though, especially with things like lamb that you don't want to overcook - I Cobb my lamb until it reaches 150F internal and then rest it for 15-20 mins in foil, never failed to give me a perfect medium :)

Good luck with your roast, let us know how you do :)

Nice vid - I like camping but I am sorry I just dont see the point in camping in that weather. To me its about enjoying the outdoors in nice warm summer, with late evenings, a glass of g&t, sunset, green grass, birds singing and not having to wear layers of clothing.  Sleeping indoors for me im afraid during the winter. Thats not to say I am not out and about during the cold, just not sleeping out in it!
