Last year half of my weekend camping trips were solo because my kids don't want to go EVERY weekend - so they just stay with their Dad. This year he will have them nearly every weekend (lucky him - he'll have the relaxing part, while I'll have to deal with schoolwork, lunchpacks and sportskit...). This means I will have even more solo camping. I love being on my own - doing what I want - when I want - and just in exactly the way I like. I'm impressed. Do you put these tents up on your own? My hubby & teenagers don't want to camp half the time but I do. The thing that puts me off is putting the tent up single handed. If i got in a pickle would people help??

I camp alone - with a hound for company. I love that I can plan my day how I want, not waiting on other people or time wasted while decisions are made. 

My time is spent walking, photography, geocaching and relaxing with a book or writing my camping diary.

My Tent is an Outwell Carolina which is a full stand up height, I can manage to put it up on my own, not sure how I would manage if there was more than a breeze!  But am always hopefull there would be someone on site who would help out. There is plenty of room to lounge around in it if the weather turns, with lots of windows to still be able to watch the world go by.

I just need a bigger car to get all the gear in - someone to help load and unload the car would be good then they could leave all week and come to help pack away!

Ah, but you can do in a roundabout way. Sites which charge per unit usually include in that price two adults, so a solo camper ends up paying as much for him/herself as a couple would do. I've only ever been to one site so far which charges per person, all the rest have charged per unit and I've had to pay the price with no discount for being solo.

Good point about the site fees - that can be a minefield. I usually avoid sites with fees per pitch, and go for ones that charge per person. Fortunately Rynys, my favourite site for short breaks, charges per person! £7 (without EHU) if I remember rightly.

If I ever won the lottery and could afford to really splash out, I'd be tempted to set up some little self-catering places, log cabins, caravans or something, suitable for single occupancy at a reasonable one-person price. I've found pricing a real obstacle to finding holiday places - have never seen a 'sleeps one' self-catering place, yet there are more and more single person households, and some people prefer to holiday alone. There's a gap in the market, I reckon!
