To those who think they should get their deposit back
If the camp site was yours would you let people keep cancelling under water or not?? It's a business trying to earn a keep!
Ok if it were mine I would possibly say we will keep the deposit open for remainer of that season but that's it!
The reason sites now want deposits is that a lot of people book more than one site then decide last minute which one to go,thus leaving so many sites out of pocket because no one turns up!
And this is a common practice!
As with deposits come on why should anyone get a deposit back?
Since I was young enough to understand a deposit was to leave cash or whatever to hold an time if you then changed your mind you lost it
Fair play I think but in this day and age a deposit counts for nothing
But I can understand frustration in unfit sites so again I think they should keep your deposit for the season or maybe next season I think that would be a fair answer

I don't think people should be able to cancel and demand their deposit back but if they won't let you camp then I think you should get your money back.

I think that's quite reasonable considering under the sale of goods act a small garage who sells second hand cars are liable for any fault that occurs within 6 months and under distance selling regulations you can order anything and then demand the company collects (providing its within 14days) at no cost to you. I know people who have ordered used and then returned products without it costing a penny.

Yes they are a business but they surely have a duty to provide what they are advertising.

<<< But I can understand frustration in unfit sites so again I think they should keep your deposit for the season or maybe next season I think that would be a fair answer>>>

And there lies the crux. What is "fair"?

We would still be away on our England/Wales trip had we not cancelled and watching the weather forecasts, at every stop along the route, on the days we should have been there, there has been torrential rain and thunderstorms.

Being that we have a folding camper, we consider ourselves very lucky that we did cancel and can now sit and watch what could have been a total disaster, from the comfort of our home, in the dry.

Being retired, we can now go away anytime and we will continue to enjoy the odd week here and there in the coming months.
We pity those that have lost their deposits on booked but washed out campsites and now have no chance of getting the time off to take another holiday if the weather improves.

I do understand that some campsite owners would rather have my money in their bank accounts, but for them, from now on, I will not be using such sites.
And after 21 years a member of C&CC, I am also considering cancelling my membership of that club because of their booking policy.

we have just returned from a C & C C site after 2 nights of an 11 night holiday in the tent. We are seasoned campers but the pitch they gave us as the only one viable was a mud bath to start with, they had no solution as in bark or such like to soak up the mud. We used the inner carpets, & put these on top of the mud in the doorway so at least we were only tracking water in & not mud, & dumped these as we packed up. They did give us a partial refund but it still cost us £85 for 2 adults for the 2 nights we were there.  We had also lost the deposit of a trip last month because the weekend we had booked the weather was so bad. My fortnight was booked last November with my employers, am now spending the rest of my hols cleaning the mud off everything.  I kniow they have no control over the weather, but they do have control over how they deal with it. The warden already admitted the drainage system at top of site was overflowing. Under C & C C T & C they should have contacted us & tried to offer a pitch at another site that wasn't as affected, we heard Nada. I am contemplating tackling the club on a further refund but am doubtful on how much success I would have with this. We can deal with inclement weather, but every footstep in the tent was squelchy underfoot, & sat there having a cuppa all you could smell was stagnate water - just had to cut our losses

I'm a teacher so can be flexible about when I go over the summer. I will probably go Monday to Friday, will decide last minute and phone around to see what I can find. I don't use ehu so haven't had a problem finding somewhere so far.

I have, and never will book and that is the beauty of camping and also being a member of the C&CC or CC many of their THS in the school holidays are next to full facilities sites which you can use either free of charge or for a small extra charge. Also I have never paid more than £10 a night except once when a group of us wanted to meet up
