We just got back from Newquay. Last night there was a terrific storm, and the static we were in was buffeted about by high winds and deluging rain from about mid-evening to four am. The baby was awake and scared witless, and I had a poorly tum! Way to end a holiday!

However, when we got up this morning to leave, there were still many stalwart tents still standing... a few Vangos, three large Outwells, two big bell tents and a Coleman Event shelter next to a campervan. There was some discarded tentage in the bins, but they looked like awnings and porches, not whole tents. A few folks were packing up to go, but the site is well-drained and looked like it would recover fairly quickly.

I'd say, if you're determined to camp, don't be put off by this round of awful weather. I think the Environment Agency were visiting low-lying sites and those in areas liable to flood, but nobody has visited ours, and it was really quite civilised despite the dreadful night.

Just use many pegs - Deltas if you have them - and I hope the weather improves for you.

FOO, that sounds awful. Glad you are all safe.
At the moment I'm still planning n going away camping tomorrow. Will phone the campsite a little later on and see what the pitches are like.

If the pitches are awful I'm going to head up to the caravan instead, so going to get away anyway.

We got pitched about 4pm on Friday in gorgeous sunshine after driving through heavy rain. Yesterday was a mix of sunshine, showers and thunderstorms, it was really warm though! Drove to Wells for the afternoon and passed through biblical rain! I could hardly see to drive and the roads were running inches deep! Today is overcast and drizzle, don't think we'll be having a beach day this holiday! Only us and 3 other units on the field near us, dunno bout the other field I didn't see. Most had just come for the weekend though. I can cope with rain, it's when it gets really windy that I don't like it.

Had to pay upfront for the whole holiday so we aren't going home unless it is REALLY bad.

Can someone suggest a decent tape dealer and a how to guide - does the dealer go on the inside, outside or both? Do you put it on when tent is pitched or down?

Do it, do it!

We're just back from an amazing week on the west coast of Scotland.  We almost didn't go as it was torrential rain as we left.  My husband was also muttering that we must be mad.  However, we did, and it was fab.  This was our view from our tent...

So my advice is just take the risk.  You never know, it might just be fun

Glad to say we went camping after all :) We stayed local but pitched in lovely sunshine, sat outside the tent most of the evening and it stayed dry all Friday night until around 2pm on saturday! We have had a few showers since but nothing worrying, we got home 4 hours agao and in this time have managed to dry the tent by pitching it in the garden!

So glad we went....off again on Thursday so back to weather watching!!!

After having grey skies and light rain all day, we now have blue skies and sunshine with a few clouds. It's not hot, bit cool tbh, but I ain't complaining!

We had an amazing weekend in the end.  Heavy rain on Friday night and Saturday early evening but glorious sunshine the rest of the time.

We expected rain and got it. Saturday was awful, we were almost flooded out but we stuck it out. Still very grey and cool with more of the same forecast for the rest of the week. How does it change our holiday?

Well, Instead of rushing up in the morning to get the best of the sun I am having long leisurly lie-ins, reading with my kindle enjoying the lovely views out the window, still lovely even though wet. We had a smashing leisurely pub lunch yesterday, normally it would be a picnic. We are driving to see all the lovely wee out of the road places we wouldnt normally see, as usually we would be walking everywhere all day. i intend going on the Strathspey railway, a wee change again from walking or cycling. Barbeques as normal, we have a great set up with tarp, I believe folk think we're daft but hey ho, they're right. We are spending a bit more money than we normally would when camping but normally we dont spend any apart from site fees so not bothered - not spending astronomically.

This is our third go at this site and yet to get good weather. Just saying yesterday we will be booking again for next year. Gorgeous place despite the weather and one of my favourite sites, Rothiemurchus.

Well we headed down to Moffat and got the tent up in a short spell of dry but now it's back to teeming of rain. Still glad to be away. There are quite a few tents here.
