I work in a factory, and at times swear like a trooper. I put swear words in the middle of swear works in some sentances if i'm having a bad day. BUT, I never, ever swear in front of kids, and certainly not on a campsite. I'm always polite to anyone I speak to and always respect other people. Groups like this are rare, but it does happen. I've been pitched near a few over time and its not nice. We don't have kids so even though its not pleasant, I just try to shut off from it. Its far worse for people with kids and sympathise as must have ruined your trip.

C&CC sites are generally well run, but I've found they do vary. One of our favorite sites is Keswick, and whilst some of the wardens are jobsworths ( I was once told to take down a wind break because it crossed an un-marked boundry, and even though my neighbours told the guy the windbreak wasn't a problem, he still made me take it down. F******* T***) 17 They are very keen when it comes to noise and disruption. I have no doubt if the same group were on that site acting in that way, they would have been warned very quickly, and then asked to leave if they continued. So, sometimes they can be a pain, and pick up on petty things, but they would come in handy if you have pitched near rifraf, as they patrol regulary and would not stand for that kind of behavior.

We've just come back from a 5* site, with caravans mixed in with tents.  My friend next door came to my 'van and said did I think the music from the tent next door to her was loud.  I siad yes, but said leave it to me as I was just going past to go to the bins.  I politely asked the woman if she could turn the music down.  Her daughter went to the car to turn it down, then was later glancing in my direction on the verge of turning it back up.

Then they started running the car engine (again), so my friend asked her if it was necessary and she replied that she was charging her phone (even though she had a hook up point but wasn't using it).  My friend went to reception to voice her concerns and found the woman there complaining about her!  The warden didn't seem to take her concerns seriously, but I see the point that you wouldn't want car fumes in your awning whilst you are trying to eat your dinner.

This at a 5* site at £38 per night we worked out the tent had paid as there were so many children with them. Maybe there is a debate about mixing tents with caravans here but the bottom line is having consideration for others.

Does anyone else think that there are a lot of people(from both sides of the current debate) Who are not suited to camping...And should never have taken up the pastime in the 1st place?

From the loud aggressive(foul mouthed) family who don't know how to behave at home never mind on site....

To the almost professional moaners and complainers..Who are up at reception(or the owners)at the 1st whiff of BBQ smoke to drift across their pitch...Or someone talking in anything louder than a hoarse whisper after 9pm at night!!

I'm sometimes supprised(given the conditions some of us encounter)That we get any "Just back from my Camping trip" reports on here that tell us about the fantastic trip they have just had!!!!!

Yes...I've had some nightmare trips...Due to peoples inconsiderate behaviour (perceived or otherwise)....The weather etc... And have posted as such on here But I'll say it again...The good times camping far far outweigh the bad ones...And I find for me personally the bad trips(or the memory of them) dim with time (Always there..but a dim memory) while the good times stay with me far longer...

Its always a bit of a raffle for us every time we pack our gear and head off as to what is awaiting us at the other end..I have been fortunate this year that the trips I have been on...Have on the whole been great...Some minor upsets/irritations to contend with...But mostly good.

Long may that continue....

Jelboy.

I sort of agree with you jelboy but camping is our home whilst on holiday and what is unacceptable at home should be just as unacceptable on a campsite which is our temporary home. Manners cost nothing and I think there are still neanderthals among us who literally don't give a hoot for anyone else, wherever they are.

It affects some more than others, I suppose it all depends what we are exposed to in our daily life.

I also agree that good holidays will always be remembered but a holiday spoiled by billy bob and family will equally be remembered.

I posted a similar issue a few weeks ago. I am with the poster that you feel intimidated as they will know it's you if you report and that's what's hard. I did report in the end but received no help. Yes listed CC&C site who I contacted after returning & frankly they weren't interested; "It's only a listed site." So choose what site suits you, if there is a problem try to do something if you can safely. If it's so bad consider if you will ever return to the site. Yes I have had fab trips for 10 years & this was my second bad experience but sadly it does stick in the mind.

I've never bothered running the engine to charge a phone and never flattened a car battery even when I've left the phone on charge overnight. If the car battery hasn't got enough to charge up a phone, it probably didn't have enough to start the car either (although I freely admit to not fully understanding electrickery).

Leaving a car engine running unless it's some kind of dire emergency is just ignorant imo. You might as well get a generator if you're going to do that.

I've only had 2 trips spoilt by other campers and I've been camping regularly since 1974.

The first was kind of unavoidable - a couple had a baby that cried and cried most of the night for 3 consecutive nights, then they went home. The second was inexcusable - a huge drunken group arguing, shouting and swearing until well into the small hours, followed by drunken 4x4 racing round the camping field, which was terrifying.

When I compare that to the times I've met people who are friendly, charming, considerate and helpful, they outweigh the horrors by about 1,000:1.

i'm a biker did a CCC site a few years ago solo camping and the families either side of me swore  effing more than i do..   which has to be a bad.  so i don't see the differance. it's all  down to people, not the site.
