I joined the scouts when I was 11 and went to my first summer camp the following year.

I am now 65 and still camping, although I have now given up winter camping, so it's 53 years for me.

53yrs is certainly a long time, bet you have a few stories too tell.

Blimey.....I feel like a spring chicken compared to some on here.....17

Started camping 18 months ago, spent hundreds of £'s and have found my ideal escape....even if it is the back garden sometimes 17

Pitching again later as the youngest has her friends over to stay in the tent in the garden..... (the first question they ask when invited to a sleepover is...."are we in the tent?") Should be fun as I have a suspected broken wrist which is splinted at the mo while waiting for further xrays.....and no I can't let them do it as my tent is special and if they did it wrong I'd cry....17

I have given my daughter a loan of my fishing bivvies when she has had sleepovers at her mums house...All her friends are in their mid teens/twenties and don't strike me as being remotely interested in camping....But like your daughters friends all ask "Are you putting the tents up?"when she invites them over..Seems they all love back garden camping and have a high old time even if its done on the crazy paving of the patio...!!!

Most of the girls friends had never been inside a tent let alone slept in one, (which was us 18 months ago), and are now putting pop up tents on their Christmas lists....I feel quite proud that we're inspiring the next generation of campers....17

Like some of the other posters I unfortunately or fortunately discovered camping only a couple of years ago thanks to my beloved dog and wanting to go off somewhere with her; both of us took to it like a duck to water and have met lots of lovely people and have camped practically non-stop ever since - making up for lost time. Next camp is a NY eve meet which was very successful last year.

Nearly forgot, I was 59 when I camped for the first time ever, never did it as a child and this thread is inspiring, I hope to be camping for a good long while too. Happy camping everybody.
