I'd be using EHU at this time of year for heating just before bed, and light. We always pack battery lamps and gas lamp as well, because they're in the box I use in summer and it's always best to have backup.

We'd be cold with no heat in October (retired and not as gung-ho as we once were! So we'd just go to the pub until closing time and then back to the tent and into bed.

I do understand the difficulty for families with young kids and those with health issues who are used to or need extra facilities. No fun to be suddenly 'shut down'! However, EHU supply on campsites is dodgy at best, and there's always someone on the site likely to overload and blow the system. If anything is urgently needed it's always best to look into an alternative supply. For us, OH has suggested a home-made bicycle-style generator, and we'd both keep fit at the same time!

As we only camp for about 20-25 nights of the year we don't find any need for EHU at all and just make do with "normal" camping, the only "modern" device we take is a old mobile phone for emergencies, but we do believe in a few luxury items such as camp beds, duvets, pillows, hot water bottles etc, as we like to rough it in style!!,

we are both getting older now, 70 & 65, and fortunately we have no health issues as yet, but might have to go down the EHU path one day, when and if that comes our training without EHU will come in handy should the power be lost.

It is sooo nice having EHU, in those cold months.  Being able to have the heater on while getting changed, along with the leccy kettle.  Thankfully I am not entirely dependent on the Electric.

I always have torches, battery powered lights, always use gas stove, the whistling kettle comes with me.  plus the gas heater.  just incase.  I take the same amount of bedding regardless the season. O yes and clothes.

The campers were ill-prepared for the unexpected, in the OP. Maybe they will be more prepared next.  Or they will stick to the Summer months.   More space for everyone eles.  17
