Well I am currently planning my first camping trip and I intent to attempt to fit a 4 person 2 room tent, a two burner calor gas powered stove, as well as a backup mini stove powered by the little canisters, a little portable gas powered heater, folding table and chairs and then obvious essentials (clothing, cutlery, washing up stuff etc) in a Fiat Punto along with myself, partner, 3 month old and all her essentials (Not taking a pushchair/pram, just a baby carrier) and a 4 year old and his essentials.

Good luck :) but seriously you will be suprised at what you can fit inside if packed correctly, our old kia picanto used to be known as the tardis! just be carefull if putting things under the seats as lots of modern cars have lots of wires underneath for airbags etc.

Hi, we have just bought the kampa bamburgh, not pitched it yet as garden too small. We too will struggle for space as we have a Mini Countryman, a roofbox and two pre-teens. O/h and i have thought of getting trailer but have decided  we should have enough room with some savvy packing.. umbrella fold chairs... clothes in re useable supermarket bags, suitcase stoves and a small gas bbq, along with fold up picnic table, inflatable beds, we are hoping to do ok.. fingers crossed :)

Aah, Robnchar, that top photo looks so carefree! Why didn't I do these things when I was younger?

Even as an unfit 50-year-old I'm so tempted to go cycle camping. Then I recall a poor cyclist we saw toiling along in driving rain under his yellow cape on the Isle of Harris. I didn't envy him at the time.

But if the weather was fine, I could be persuaded. Is that mad? And of course it would mean having to buy a whole lot of lightweight kit! Mmmmm . . .

If you get chance look up Devral Murphy ! She cycled all over the world and didnt start till she was 60 . I'm 41 lung disease and heart failiure but now I have a pass maker we intend cycle touring again maybe in May !

Sorry to OP for diverting off track but I have to respond to this! Gosh, well done to you, not letting your health problems stop you! You must have great memories from your world trip too. I hope you have a great tour in May. Well, I have no excuses left now, so I'm off to look up Dervla Murphy.
