We took our Springer Spaniel for the fist time last year, she was only 5 months old, but was so good, we're taking her again at the end of April. I couldn't imagine going without her, but like others have said really depends on the dog, Bella is not a barker and has no issues, apart from excitement weeing! Which we are hoping she grows out of!!!

Hello there

I have just been camping at Lady Heyes and took my Border Collie pup ( 17 wks old) for the first time and he absolutely loved it. I think part was because I took his toys and blankets etc from home so it was familiar for him and also part because he is crate trained and had the security and safety of "his bed" at night. I also attached his lead to the ground spike so he could watch the world go by and he only barked when he saw other dogs playing in the designated area (but a wind break would stop him seeing ) as he had already had plenty of play time.

Well we go again in June so we are excited, go on take your poochies , they may surprise you x x

We usually take our 2, in fact we only did 1 trip last year without them and that was because we were taking our son to Go Ape in Bedgebury. Luckily we have older girls who we can leave them with if we have to.

Ours seem to really enjoy it, but can become territorial of our pitch. I don't always put up the windbreak because they get more spooked if someone pops round it then if they can see whats going on. They don't bark often, only if they see other dogs being walked past the pitch, and I'm hoping with it being their 2nd year this year, that they may be even better as they get more use to it.
We are going to a couple of sites for weekends this year where we have decided to leave them at home with our daughters because there is a lot of wildlife around the camp!! Both of our dogs have a strong prey drive so it wouldn't be a good mix. The site advises that if your dogs are unable to cope with all the wildlife on site it would be better to make alternative arrangements for them, and that's exactly what we have done, but we will miss them like mad!!!!!!!
Ours sleep in our bedroom pod with us, and they love it.

You can see a photo of them camping on my gallery page.

I think we are going to have to give it a try over a long weekend. I know they will love being with us and will just have to hope that they take to camping

Hi Dawn,

I hope your trial camp goes well and the dogs enjoy it :-)

We have a 4 year old Jack Russell, Archie, who loves his camping holidays :-) Being a terrier, he is territorial, and barks at home at passers by but we have never really had an issue with this when we camp.

As someone else said, his dog tether is always packed where we can get at it as soon as we arrive on site - he is then quite happy to lie there watching us set up. He loves being outside, and loves the attention he always gets from passers by.

One of the main reasons we started camping was so that we could take Archie with us :-) He is always absolutely worn out at night which is great, ha ha!

We always keep him on a lead, and keep in mind that not everyone loves dogs, but for the most part he gets lots of fussing from fellow campers :-)

Kate x

As a non dog owner I'll put my slant on it as long as the dogs don't bark and keep me awake but then the same applies to noisy people.
As long as it's tied to a steak or other meat type item then fine. Don't want Fido weeing on my guyropes.
Plus as my daughter is wary of dogs as long as its friendly and can be approached after asking then fine.

Ours have generally been ok- only time Holly our srpinger barked was when there was a helicopter out overhead in the middle of the night, I think it freaked her out but it was so noisy I hope the sound of the helipcopter drowned out the nose of her barking and she settled again once it disappeared.

Mine gets all excited and barks as if to say "hurry up and start cycling" when I get the bike ready as he loves running next to the bike.

Can't be quite embarrassing when the camp site is quiet!
