I'm in N. Ireland too. What site was it? I was at Hillfoot near Dungiven, quite near the North West 200 as well but it was a washout. To be honest, this weekend past was no weekend for camping.

There are some more tent convenient sites around NI. If you get back to me I have a spreadsheet of various EHU available tent pitches here.

Good to know there fellow local campers on here. I was at six mile water in Antrim, been to Kilbroney a few weeks back and has some rain there too, it was seriously muddy so we haven't the carpet down so the leaks were harder to spot, although there was water in the tent we couldn't tell where it came from.

Would be very interested to gain some local knowledge of good sites for tents.

I was at Six Mile water in April in my tent. I don't think the warden is all that keen on tenters though, at least that was the impression I got. I've not been to Kilbroney, it's a bit out of the way for me. I would recommend Hillfoot though, it's a great site but you can't rely on the weather unfortunately! I am thinking of going away for a night on Saturday night this weekend to Ballyronan, mostly so I can get the tent properly dried. I believe it's busy though so I'll be relying on a cancellation. I sent you an email this morning. I will be trying hillfoot, looks exactly the kind of site I was looking for and at less than half the price of six mile water it's all good. Thanks again.

I might pitch the tent this eve in the garden. I have seam sealer now, just need to work out where exactly to apply it, water was getting in between the folded material on the toggle. Could seal outside seam easy enough. Could also try some sealer between the fold but not sure how this would work out.

Gunman, got your message and hope I can be of help. To be honest, the conditions last weekend were quite exceptional and I sort of knew it wouldn't be great but because we were going with a few other people I didn't want to cancel. Hope you try Hillfoot soon, don't go this weekend though because Mervyn (the boss) is having a bunch of teens camping with him to do with the Radio 1 big weekend in the North West. It could be a bit mental!

No worries, hope to be going sailing this weekend anyway.

I went last weekend as I wanted to see how the tent would hold up to heavy rain. I know that sounds daft, but as we cant tell what the weather in Cornwall will be like in 6 weeks and we've booked ferries etc so cant postpone, we need to know we could handle whatever weather we get (within reason).

Hi

Dont give up just yet. We have camped for over 20 years, had many amazing trips and a few slightly dodgy ones. The one thing you really need is a tent you can trust though. I would follow the advice about some kind of sealant for your Kampa.

Definitely think about getting EHU. We did this a couple of years ago and it does make a difference if you are away for a week or more. There is always lots of debate about whether its still "proper" camping but if it makes it more comfortable its worth the investment.
