Each to their own I suppose but I wouldn't be at all happy if someone near me hadn't guyed their tent - I'd probably send the other half over for a chat and mention it in conversation (I'm a bit shy). If that didn't work I'd end up parking the car between their tent and ours. I've had to wrestle a non guyed day tent with a total stranger at 4am in the morning to prevent it damaging his tent while the owner slept blissfully on - not much fun!

Unfortunately ground was rocky and the pegs (plastic and wire ones bent like a banana) and rubber mallet weren't up to the job. Some of the pegs I couldn't get all the way in.
This year I'm a bit more prepared, lump hammer, claw hammer, rubber mallet, rock pegs, deltas, 12 inch plastic pegs for sandy soil and some metal v pegs and wire pegs.

Thats the way. Ninety percent of tents dont come with suitable pegs

I'm leaving the wire pegs behind for our trip to France. Only taking rock pegs and v pegs as the site is in an old quarry. Lump hammer, mallet and claw hammer are always in the bag.
I've seen so many tents with the guys not pegged out. They are there for a reason.

I saw a few 'un-pegged' tents last weekend. I just assumed they hadn't bothered due to the weather being so good.

I always peg every guy on my tent, not just for stability, but also because the guy lines help to keep the tent taut and stop it from drooping and touching the inner sleeping compartment.

I think it is just good practice to peg all guys out, when you get in a pattern of "that will do" things go wrong.

You must love your tent more than your car then

This is what annoys me, we have a day tent and it is very stable once pegged down correctly, it is bad enough they have to be lumped under the title "gazebo" let alone someone been too lazy to push a few pegs in the ground.

After our trip at Easter when we went to sleep on a calm night only to wake an hour later to a gale which lasted for hours (!) we would never pitch without pegging all the way round. If we hadn't that night our tent wouldn't have made it through the night, it was scary enough without having to peg out in the early hours! Gorgeous conditions on our last trip but you never know - plus it makes the first beer feel even more deserved!

If something happens and a tent or pegs start flying across a field etc and causes damage or worse injury are we guilty by omission for not saying anything it may sound extreme.
You can be tactful like mentioned earlier casually drop it into conversation
At work if an incident occurs there is an investigation and they DO review CCTV if it is shown that we have allowed behaviour or actions to continue prior to the event and have not intervened then we could be held liable.

The tents are normally always fully guyed out with rock pegs. However, last year with the Monty the two guys either side of the front door I left tied up as they would have been in the way. I'm not sure if they are even on the newer Montys

The event shelter though I totally forgot to guy out (having done the main tent on arrival and two more & the ES the next morning) and not a breath of air around, until my nice neighbour (a caravanner) informed me that the weather was due to change overnight, quick sharp the ES was guyed out and remained so until we left. For that night I did the two either side of the front door as well.

I was very grateful he told me the weather forecast.

as far as we're concerned the guy ropes were put there for a reason, so we always make use of them...we even add more to the tent if the weather takes a turn for the worse...we don't want to go out for the day then return to the campsite to find that our expensive tent has gone walkabout all by itself...

Wonder how many people who have had a tent blown away fail to peg out, after mine went, I like to see each and every peg buried under a foot of earth before I relax

Us too, when we had the frame tent we used to carry two big ratchet straps and stakes, and I know on at least one occasion they definitely saved us
