Here's a cheap and effective way of locking your trailer on site.  It's more effective than a hitch lock, cheaper than a wheel clamp and less hassle than removing the wheels.

Kit needed.

1 x hardened steel shackle lock ( D type cycle lock)  £5.45 from Towsure

1x dog tie screw stay  £1.95 from Towsure

Screw the stay into the ground under your trailer, pass the lock over the axle of your trailer and through the stay.  Once locked you can't unscrew the stay, nor can you pull the stay out , even using a car.

For extra security you might use two stays located side by side.

Great tip Merlin... and you say it can't be towed away either?  Crikey, sounds just the job.  Thanks for that

I must be too trusting!

I have had a trailer for the last six years (since son came along) and we just park it behind or at the side of the tent - never locked to anything.  Have cammed at several sites in UK and France with it and never had a problem.  Although someone did steal our son's spade from the awning last summer!

Stopping en-route is our biggest concern too, we always try and stop with the trailer in view from the cafe in service stations or one of us stays with vehicle and we take food out to eat in car.  For overnight stops en-route we also take a pup tent which can be put up in 20 mins and pitch beside car and trailer so we would hear if anyone tried to take it on the basis that it is much more valuable (and holiday wrecking) if it gets pinched fully laden!
