Speaking from a very recent 6 year old broken arm experience. We as parents were more affected by the accident (whlist camping!) than our son. Who on leaving hospital at 11.45pm wanted to return to the campsite. We were about 45minutes from home so we went back to campsite the morning after.

Dave + Angela

I can thoroughly reccommend one of these. Your little girl will be able to bath shower and our son even went swimming in the pool and playing in the jets at Haven a week after his accident. Well worth the money especially for 8 weeks. Their delivery is really quick if you call them they will make sure you get the right size.

Dave and Angela,

Sorry to hear about your daughter's accident - I hope she makes a speedy recovery. The limbo covers are available on prescription. You don't have to buy them. If you ring your GP surgery and give them the name of the product, they'll be able to look it up on the computer and hopefully get a prescription issued for one then you can get it for free. Our two year old had one on prescription when he broke his leg. Make sure it's a child-size one though or she'll be swamped in the adult size ones!

Did you know that you can have waterproof plaster casts now (well, fibreglass, not plaster) and kids can swim in the sea and then just rinse them off with fresh water and they dry by themselves - son had one 2 summers ago and even went bodyboarding with it!

If anyone out there has a slow healing fracture, try chinese medicine - son avoided bone graft using tea prescribed by chinese doctor - no healing for 12 weeks, 4 weeks of herbal tea and bingo - completely healed - we could not believe it!

Hope you make a speedy recovery, little one.

Hi

FAO Salley.

I would like some comments on something that happened at my tent display this weekend. Im not holding you to any comments you may make but i thought you might like to give an off the record opinon.

A customers child (5-7 yrs old) triped leaving a tent and the child cut his head. The cut was very small but i dont think that comes into it. The customer said i should not have such sharp gravel on the ground. I have covered the display as do a lot of tent reatailers with normal gravel. The customer said "I should of used pea gravel" and "I wouldnt cover my dispay with broken glass".

A number of customers in the shop heard all this and said what they thought but other comments would be great.

Now im feeling bad about it. I feel im a good modern retailer and i try and look at all thing within my bussiness re the H&S.

Regards

Gary Cross

Sorry to disagree Outdoor Crew, but the CAUSE of this accident was tripping over a guy rope! The damage to the little girl's arm occurred as a result of that trip and her arm could well have been broken even if the tree stump/log had not been there.

Kids cope with these things far better than adults and I wish her well.

Gary, "you can please all the people some of the time and some of the people all the time, but you can't please all the people all the time!" One man's pea gravel is another man's hazardous substance...

Accidents happen. My friends daughter broke her arm, when she tripped over her own feet and put her arm out to save herself. My son has had more accidents than I care to remember, but I don`t blame his bike for him falling off it or the bike manafacturers.

Gary, I really wouldn`t take that customers remarks to heart. Gravel is a common thing and not actually a deadly or dangerous weapon, some people just like to complain and will do so about anything. I know, I work in retail as well.

Why is it that so many over-protective parents and self-styled health and safety experts want to blame somebody every time a child has a mishap?  These minor accidents are part of growing up and help to teach children to be careful.

With regard to the gravel at Gary's tent display, the gravel may have beeen sharp but it would provide more cushioning than hard packed earth or concrete.  I would rather my child had a small cut than a nasty bruise or worse.
