Just thought I'd add my suggestion as it hasn't been mentioned.

How about a Toyota Verso Diesel , I have the T180 version with 180 BHP along with 300 lb/ft of Torque, in short it pulls and goes like a rocket.
It has loads of space, we fit everything in when camping with two teenage boys an Outwell Sun valley 8 along with equipment and Luggage etc. when not camping you have the choice of the 2 extra seats in the back making a 7 seater. All the seats fold flat independently should you need the space.
I had an old type Zafira before, also a fine car but I did find the Diesel a bit lac lustre. I understand the new ones have better diesel engines

A Nissan Navara double cab with SnugTop canopy on for us! Plenty of power in its engine!

It may weigh over 2 tonnes empty but it holds all our vast amount of stuff in the back leaving room for 5 adults in the cab. And none of the passengers are sat in the crumple zone like most of these modern mini people carriers.

I can't understand the problem you had with a Scenic? I had a 1.9 DCi Privelege plus from new and that was certainly not sluggish and it was economical too.

I had it for just under 2 years and put 59K on the clock and it was still going strong. The only reason I chaged it was the towing limit was around 1200kg with the driver but only 1000Kg when the car was loaded and at the time we were buying a caravan.

ok thanks all - what I meant was we have now bought a Xsara Picasse and I love it

Doesn't get much of a mention on this thread but having a toddler it is great!! Much easier to get him in and out of on a daily basis......and I have already done 500 miles on one tank of diesel hoorah!!!!!!

Maybe the Scenic we tried was duff as a few people have said it should not have been sluggish......but hte Picasso has more space which is what we need...

Hi have you got your car sorted yet? If not we have a Citroen Berlingo Multispace 2.0HDI and it certainly has umph! We had from new and would definately get another one. It cost around £11K. You could probably get one around 4years old on your budget.

It has a big boot and sliding rear doors making getting your little one straped in will be easier. The rear seat is also raised giving anyone in a back a better view so less chance of car sickness.

On a negative its looks aren't for everyone and my husband needs a stepladder to put our bikes on top.
