...I think the C&C have gone past not looking after campers (tent) to also not looking after the whole camping fraternity by the amount of sites that are now having static vans and chalets put on them at the expence of us all, both so called clubs are now just money making business but they do still have some advantages ie CL & CS sites...
I'm afraid I'd have to agree... I very rarely use any 'Club Sites' these days, I much prefer to choose from the myriad of C.S.s that are still happy to welcome tent campers...
I very rarely bother reading the magazine these days (the last three are still in their plastic wrapper!), as articles of interest to tent campers are virtually non existent now...
Regarding 'Pea shingle' pitches for tents... No thanks, pea shingle will move from under heavily used areas and 'bunch up' in other places, you'll end up with something resembling 'a relief map of the Pennines' under your groundsheet. Like football, camping is something that should only be 'played' on grass!... When you hear of tarpaulins under groundsheets, with a 'carpet' on top of that, then you'll know why so many pitches resemble 'mud baths' these days. Until campers go back to 'bothering' to air their pitch occasionally, things won't change and I can't see that happening with this current fad for 'multi layered' groundsheets...
So please Alan before you jump in to a post in defence of a friend or anyone else make sure you have read the post fully then you will not make mistakes in what you say.Have a nice dayRex
I think this thread has gone exactly the way I thought it would when I read the first post.

Thanks all, and that's it for this thread, shame it had to degenerate to insults ( cleaned up now ) There really is no need to be rude, whether you are replying to the thread (not you TekkieAnne), or whether you started it. It ruined a perfectly good debate.
