We have a nappy bin / bucket with a lid which my OH half is dead against (cos he thinks it's gross even though it's only wee and that I'll knock it over in the middle of the night. In all fairness, I might!) which I use if I can't bear to wait but I'm still paranoid about unzipping the inner tent and waking up the kids.
What are the views on kids that wake up stupid early on campsites? (5am - 6am ish?)
We went camping with some friends a few summers ago, my early rising the 4 yr old slept til 9am every day...however their 4 yr old was up at 6am...so they sat in the car and watched DvDs with him unrul 8ish ( well Dad slept and son watched DvD).
Last summer, on a site we went to, there were a family with three kids all tiny, who were up at 05:30 and the parents let the outside to play......this I think is unacceptable.
When my youngest was up at half 5 last time we went, he insisted on going outside (which I couldn't avoid otherwise he would've kicked off) and we ended up having quite a quiet little walk about.
I have mentioned this time that we should invest in a portable DVD player as the kids do get to a point where they become bored and srat fighting especially if the weather is not great.
I realise that on-one wants to be woken up at the crack of doom otherwise we'd have brought our alarm clocks but I certainly would NOT let the kids outside to play at that time of day.
Other people have kids that sleep in. (Lucky gits!)
LOL.....mine do sleep in and I am lucky, but I have camped with many friends who`s don`t.
I personally have no hard feelings towards anyone who is making the effort to control their kids ( mine are very noisy when awake)......I just objected to this couple who let theirs ( two in nappies,) outside unsupervised at the crack of dawn....the site manager had a word in the end. The lady next door to us was so worried she sat up and watched over them....bless her
Yeah we are getting some campbeds this season. See if we can minimise the arguements over who gets the lionshare on the mattress. My poor 10yo gets shoved over cos my 3yo is a bed hog!
OMG I never leave the kids outside unsupervised. I'm a paranoid parent at the best of times (my 3yo has a mini micro scooter and has to wear a helmet and knee and elbow pads...) but my youngest has got a bit of a death wish thing going on.
That is totally unacceptable! What happened when the manager spoke to them?
The biggest problem I had with kids camping was the first time me & the little one went away with my best friend and her two. The oldest of hers was nearly five & the youngest was 11 months (four months younger than mine). The first night the babies wanted to play with each other through the sides of their travel cots and the oldest kept telling them off & then crying because the babies were keeping her awake. Ended up with my friend squashing in with hers while I went in with mine.
After that they were fine, and since then we've put the two babies in together with no problems, Evie usually goes to bed earlier than my James does but she plays up until he's been put in bed and then goes out like a light
and James wants to go to bed as soon as Evie's gone.
They have then been known to sleep for 15 hours, even with all the noise of everyone else getting up and clattering about in the morning.

Dont you find the unzipping noise sounds louder in the middle of the night!!

I was only joking.... :)
I know you were Julie
And about things sounding louder at night, for some reason I seem to think that if I do that thing where you somehow create more pressure in your ears so I can't hear it so well then no-one else will hear me doing the zips! Probably doesn't have any effect though...
No-one answered for ages so I got a bit of a complex!
I always think the zip is way louder at nightime! And I can almost hear my OH cringe in bed whilst listening to me pee. Thought about sticking some loo roll in the bottom to muffle the sound.
I'm so paranoid about waking the kids (knowing the temperamental sleep pattern of my 3yo). The whole idea of having to contain a fiesty young lad in the middle of the night in a completely un-soundproof tent does fill me with dread. Fortunately I havn't had to deal with it yet (touch wood) but I know I won't get away with it forever!
