oh dont lock it i wanna read it first..cant stand whingey campers going on about noise in campsites!!

i had a tent and TV it was great i dont think i disturbed anyone,they never said anything anyway :)

1. Do you take a TV camping with you and how often is it switched on whilst away?

yes we did

2. Do you think you are being antisocial, inconsiderate or ignorant of others by taking your TV/Radio etc.

no not at all

3. Have you ever been annoyed by the noise of a TV and/or Radio - and what did you do about it.

no its the sound of people having a nice holiday

4. Do you think a group of drunk adults "having a laugh" sitting outside a tent. is more threatening behaviour than a telly switched on at low volume in a tent?

drunk or merry?? there is a difference :) merry adults yeh thats fine,,and drunk ones aswell aslong as there not weeing against me tent or whatever,might join em even..after all camping is a friendly thing socialising etc...

Ive never had a tv camping with me nor a radio..until I bought a caravan!! and even now its only turned on when the weather is bad!! I think the whole camping experiance brings its own ways of filling in time while away.. and time certainly flies for me while away... Ive been in the early to bed camp...and Ive been in the revellers camp where we have been asked to be a bit quieter(and done so)Ive been on the sites with gangs of unsupervised youths running amok..and Ive been on the quiet country sites..And I know which ones I prefer...Like Delta My camping is ruled mostly by the CC rule..Care and Consideration for those around me..There will always be noise on a campsite..but I beleive with CC these can be reduced to acceptable levels at all times day and Night..The upset child crying though sometimes annoying is acceptable..cos Ive been the parent trying to pacify..Loud snoring again though annoying..is acceptable..The person doing so is hardly doing it on purpose(and I have been known to do so myself...)The people having a drink/get together late(ish) at night is also acceptable..to a certain degree..What is not acceptable is those who seem to think they run or own the campsite and act unsocially at all times without a thought for those around them..(I think you know the ones I mean) The "I want to listen to my music"..and share it with everyone brigade The "My kids have every right to run riot late at night" mob and woe betide you if you complain Mob..Thankfully most of my camping trips over the years have been quiet enjoyable experiances..with just the minor irksome behaviour from neighbours..and long may it continue

Please don't say that it is sad that parents need a TV to entertain their kids when away.   (As I said in my previous post we don't take a TV, but a portable DVD.)

Yes it is a great time when families can spend time together - is is the one time that we can sit down together for a meal as a family.   We do lots of things together, and our kids play out for hours with other kids.

But take a look at two of our holidays last year.    May half term - weather was dry.   We sat outside the tent.   Hardly saw the kids, except when a group of kids cycled past.    Did some stuff as a family - mainly outdoor stuff.     Nice play area for the kids, which is where they went in the morning to meet their friends.   Portable DVD stayed in the car.

August - it was wet.    The play area on site wasn't that much.   Even when it wasn't raining the site was sodden.     Most of the time it was too cold and wet to sit outside.       By the last evening, if I played one more game of Connect 4, Snakes and Ladders or Snap, the men in white coats would have been needed to take me away.       I was winning Richard in the Crib stakes  29 games to 27.        We put the DVD on, and watched a film before going to bed early. 

We had done our best all week.   Half the activities that we has wanted to do were impossible because of the weather.    We had spent time together.   In the end we needed something and the DVD proved ideal.   

We have so far managed to not take a dvd player or TV.  However last year was the worst weather and every camping trip was terrible weather.    We played games and walked in the rain!  So this year we have decided to take my laptop and a few DVD's just in case we are all totally fed up with the weather.  I hoping that we won't need them, but a week of torrential rain and gales can get you down. 

I remember starting off camping a few years ago, with no electric, no gadgets (MP3's, gameboys etc).  Well over time I relented and let my teen daughter bring her MP3, my youngest her DS and my OH his PSP!  I read a book in the evening if they are all using their gadgets!  To be hones the gadgets got boring after a short while and we all got a board game out.  I think it is easier as the kids get older, you can play more complicated board games. 

If we all like the same holidays then getting onto sites this summer would be a nightmare.

The only EHU site we are going to are for the meets, we don`t have an EHU so the kids can`t ask for the tv to come. Even in the torrential downpour that was our August hol last year they didn`t miss it....however, I think mine are slightly older and that does make a massive difference in entertaining them.....we didn`t camp when my youngest was a toddler.....she`d have been a nightmare.

This post made me smile. Last year on a very very wet camp our kids who had been playing quite happily outside for a couple of hours suddenly went quiet  and we found them with there noses pressed up against a caravan window watching someones TV!.( we were in a tent )I fully expected them to ask why we didnt have a TV but once they had wiped off the smudges they were back to muck and puddles. No Tv for me means not having to watch top gear, football and DH bad TV choice. However we do have a portable DVD player for the car which has come out  to keep kids busy when taking tent down in atrocious weather. 

 I always take a tv/dvd its my hols and as long as i don't disturb anyone else whats the problem? i have no intention of criticising anyone who doe's not take a tv and wish's to do different things. holidays mean different things to different people live and let live folks!

Ok. Prompted by the anti TV mob out there. I would like to ask all tenters.

We don`t take a TV but we do take the laptop and some DVD`s to watch if the weather isn`t good. We watch a DVD before bed and keep the volume low. We have a Freeview dongle, but have only used it once for OH to watch a footie match with.

No I don`t. In what way can watching a DVD on low volume before the site `quiet` time can be classed as ignorant, anti-social or inconsiderate? I`ve had far more of that behaviour from people who look down their noses at people with TV`s etc.

Only once when a guy had his TV on loud at midnight. OH went to have a quiet word and the problem was solved. Poor guy was deaf and `forgot` he wasn`t at home.

I can`t see how having a TV on low volume can possible be seen as a threat. What sort of threat? Do people fear they might run amok and beat every everyone to death with their aerial ?  A group of drunk adults having a laugh usually means more noise than a TV in my opinion and although I don`t mind, I have known my teenage daughter ask me to go to the toilet block with her as she hasn`t liked walking past groups like that on her own, not that I would let her go on her own anyway.
