The first time (with kids) the tent was free because it could be classed as a pup tent, second time (without kids) we we forced to pay £5 a night extra gazebo charge for the tent because you can't call it a pup tent if you don't have any pups (kids) and you can't call it an awning if it isn't attached to your van.
I'd have rented a child, I think! Even if you paid £2 a night for a kid, you'd still be £3 ahead, and you could make them wash up and fetch water.
sxis, I too have just heard back from CC&C and Mr shepherd from Forest Holidays. Same reply. He said they don't charge for an attached awning or toilet tent, just everything else. They have got us by the short and curlys because there isn't any other sites in the forest. Anyone got ideas on making my 1.5m (5ft) trailer temporarily .3m shorter while I camp in the New Forest?

You could alwys poke that .3m up Mr Shepherd's...... no, maybe not.
This is a horrifying eye-opener ! We have a reasonable size tent as OH has disability (bending kills him) & much prefer canvas canping. However our unpredictable climate meant that many times when we would have loved to take off for a couple of days with the dog, we didn't - not worth it for a couple of nights if it pees down, so... we recently bought an old small caravan as well to keep our options open. But couldn't agree with you all more, this is daylight robbery !
Though I can see that a lot of people on one pitch are all benefitting from basic facilities (loos/showers etc) & more leccy used if using hook-up, it is totally unfair if say 2 people with vehicle & huge caravan with full awning pay less than 2 people with vehicle & tent in same size space, however many kitchen tents/whatever. We WERE going to join the C&CC, but now will re-think...
Yeah, sxis, when they get tired of people complaining, they might see sense. They are not going to get a penny of mine or my camping friend's money - I've warned them all off.
Example; 4 nights camping with our kit at Holmsley this month £120
same at Long meadow campsite down the road and in a nicer position £60
Doesn't take much thinking about does it?
It's Forest Holidays you need to complain to as they fix their own charges. C and CC I think are reasonable and won't charge you £5 a night for your trailer. OMG, getting cross again!
The c and cc are Major shareholders in forrest holidays and as such they are using members funds we have a right to complain it is after all a club belonging to the members and they need to be reminded of that fact if i was a major shareholder in a business i would want a say in what went on even more so if i was representing others !
------------- I Think Therefore I Am I Think? eh? If all is not lost where is it?
Kelling Heath charge £5 per night for dogs and gazebos/pup tents during peak season!!
For £5 I'd expect them to feed it and take it for a walk. I think when sites charge that much for a dog it must be to discourage people from bringing them. It only costs me £8 per night to put my dogs in kennels, ffs!
I have said that to a site in East Anglia as they charged probably about the same amount and didnt have a dog walk on site
