The first time I took my son camping aged about 8 months, he cried all night so we packed up and went home the next day because I thought it was unfair to the other campers. Didn't camp again until I thought he was ready to sleep through the night in a tent.

Must admit we've come back from a site where there were alot of primary age children and the noise on some evenings was ridiculouse....hanging around in tens and twelves, playing loud footbal games until it was dark, hanging around by the loos and just general hulabaloo.

I noticed that the problem mainly was because it seemed the parents relied alot on kids hooking up together and playing ( thereby not requiring parental input or supervision ).  The trouble is...this amounted to the parents being miles away down the field quietly reading a book, while those of us nearer the facilities and flatter ground had to endure hours and hours of large groups of kids screaming and shouting.

There were far too many unsupervised kids and for far too long in my opinion...my husband even had to get hold of one three year old ( being looked after by two girls not much older ) because he nearly toddled infront of a car on the farm track.  Parents nowhere to be seen.

Now I have three kids of my own and I'm not against kids having fun and building memories !!....but when it amounts to listening to hordes of kids who are left unsupervised for hours on end ( some of them way too young to do so ) then I start to get a bit irritated.  Fair enough to those parents who come along from time to time and instruct the kids to play quieter/nicely/ or come back to the tent for some quiet time.....but most seemed to take the opportunity of other campers to 'babysit' their kids.

O dear... I'll let you all know when and where I'll be as my youngest sleeps for around 2 hours a day/night ~ he has several disabilaties one being slightly deaf so when he starts to sing the whole site would hear him problem being it can be at anytime of the day or night.

thankfully everyone he meets falls in love with him and think he's funny when performing.

We have a 14 month old - he sleeps through the night but whether you put him to bed at 7 or 11 he wakes at 6.30 wherever he is. He is quite a vocal little chap as well so as soon as we hear him in the mornings one of us dives into his room with milk, breakfast and toys and sits in his pod with him until 7.30 keeping him quiet.

I could not allow him to just run around shouting at 6.30am.  That is sooo selfish.  I think 7.30 is reasonable as there is always a lot of movement and kids awake at that time on any of the sites I have been to.

DaveP65 - why on earth do you not go to adult only sites if you hate kids so much? If I hated dogs (which I don't!) I would go to dog free sites!

I wondered the same thing vti2007.  We all have a choice where we stay adult only no dogs etc we go where we know we will be happy, for me that children playing dogs barking but no snorers LOL.

Wish they would start some sites where only non snorers were allowed but then again how would they assess eligibility to camp? 17

We went camping for the first time last week ( those there would have known as it took us ages to errect our tent that should /says takes 10 mins )
Anyway the site went quiet at around 10 pm so we told our kids ( 10 yr girl , 6yr boy ) that is was quiet time .
Had no problem in the morning as they were snug as in the tent !! we had to wake them .
to me its common scence as to when to be quiet .
altough we did have a small argument between our little lad and daughter over her trapped wind !!!

ps we loved it and on our exit from the site , nipped into the office to book again for the bank holiday

That's very considerate! I'll camp next to you please.

I always consider adult only sites, but there never seems to be one that we liek the look/sound of in the area we want to go to.

We avoid school holidays for our main holiday, so aren't bothered by them except at the weekends, and steer well clear of any sites offering "family-friendly facilities".

I don't have kids and book adult only campsites or go for sites during term time when the chance of kids ruining a holiday are diminished.

I also avoid the large family friendly sites that have swimming pools, creches etc, you know the kind, for the same reason.

Lets all not forget we were all kids once , and some of my best memories of holidays when younger were the camping ones in st ives .
kids playing i have no problem with , babies crying is only natural .Kids running wild in the toilet block etc then yes its wrong but if a parent was watching them it wouldnt happen .
Its not the kids its the parents who cant be bothered to supervise when they are at the play area , or wont tell them to keep it quiet when its late /early
