Ive been single off and on for a long time. I find that the only " wives" who get nervous about their partners chatting to other women on site are the ones whose hubbies have been caught with their trousers down lol.

I have several male friends and their parners have no problem with my friendship.

I am a woman camping alone with my child most of the time. I don't surround myself with windbreaks. I smile, say hello, try to make myself appear open to conversation. I would welcome conversation from other campers, especially when my child is off playing with new friends all day.

I know I could be the one to initiate it, and I have done so, but it's really hard for a woman alone to break into an established family or group.

So if you see me, please come and chat. I'll put the kettle on and everything!

Just keep giving those big, honest, open smiles and I'm sure people will chat!

I'm single and normally camp just with my son and have met some lovely families despite my being rather reserved! Often, I think they just genuiely want to check that we are ok and that's really nice to know.

I actually have the opposite problem to you this year as I'm meeting up with my two sisters and their families for the whole of a two week holiday. It's a sort of early celebration for mine and my sisters 40th this year and I just keep trying to think of ways I can 'lose' them for a few days - I need some time alone with my son!!! The thought of being in the same field as them for two weeks is quite scary - that makes me sound very ungrateful and antisocial doesn't it! They're probably saying the same about me though, sisterly love and all that!!!

I’m a “4 Types” camper

1.      On my own

2.      With my son-in-law

3.      With the wife

4.      With wife, Daughter, Son-in-law, Grandchildren.

Apart from one family that objected to camping next to a “single male” Camper on one occasion (Silly People) I have always tried to be helpful and friendly to other campers whether they be single, male/female or families.

I can understand the concern of single female campers with children, when a lone person tries to make contact/be friendly, I am a Local Authority School Governor who has had a full CRB (Police) check, that means I am deemed to be safe alone with children, but who knows that, it’s not stamped on my forehead, so you have to try and judge people to the best of your ability.

I am not “pushy” as such, but always available to help any one that requires it, the type of campers I cannot abide are the one that you say a friendly good morning to, who completely ignore you, as if you were invisible, I was brought up in the era of good manners in the 1940’s and find that attitude hard to understand, is it an age thing (68) that I have?

I will continue to be a helpful camper, so, if you see a senior gentleman on his own, wishing you a good morning with a cheery attitude, and offering assistance, (you will se my picture on my gallery images page) that’s me.

Remember, there is no such thing as bad weather……only ill prepared campers !!
