Just a word for anyone if they are thinking of making there own - the bottom doesn't need to be tarp or waterproof (unless you are planning on doubling up use as a picnic blanket outside)

Go for something to back it that grips (or get some ikea anti slip stuff) - I backed using waterproof nylon and it is like a skateboard on the groundsheet - lesson learnt!

This looks interesting at lidl atm - £14.99 'All Purpose Mat' (3m x 2m)

I almost bought one of those in Lidl for our porch today Val...I ummed and aaahed for about 10 minutes before I decided against it!

The size is good (3m x 2m) but what put me off is the thought that if it's raining heavily, even though our porch is enclosed we might end up with water coming up through the holes?

I still haven't fully decided though, I might go back and get one yet!  They have them in blue and grey at our Lidl's

PS You can't properly tell from the photo but it's woven from a rubber type material with quite large holes in between each strand. It says on the packaging it's suitable as a tent carpet or for awnings/balconies

I might go and have a look at these. The roll of wood floor underlay I have dragged in from the shed is quite bulky.

The mats above are quite bulky, they're in a fairly big zipped bag

I might be popping in to Lidls for one of those for my porch...blue should go nicely with my vividly blue Icarus. I got a free swap as my last year's Icarus was faulty. Didn't think it would be quite so blue....

I have made a tent carpet from thick fabric normally used for furniture/upholstery, made it in 2 pieces connected with velcro, so it fits into the washing machine. Just one layer, and to my surprise it seems to keep the cold out just as good as the expensive Outwell carpet in my Montana. But that might depend on what the fabric is made of. The fabric was a bargain, and just the colours and pattern I wanted, and I could tailor it to fit my bell tent. (I haven't seen any ready made carpets for bell tents yet).
A bit bulky when you choose thick fabric, but I fold it to fit on the back seat of the car and have the children sit on it...
