Over the past 20 years we have had lots and lots of experience with the "camping should be simple" crowd.

"Oh you are off to the côte d'azure for a month do you have space for us on your site?" "Just for a few days!"

"Camping should be simple"

"I buy for the day" "we don't need tables and chairs" etc. etc.

But they all come, steal the nice comfortable chairs we bought for the kids and go and buy the cheapest of cheap for my kids to sit on and get really grumpy when the kids order them off. They all want cold beer and wine from our fridge. They all want me to cook _really_ nice meals and complain when we just want to eat fruit and drink some wine..."its not a proper meal"!!

They come two years straight....third year "why don't you get your own site?" "Well we might not come this year" and of course they do.

Yup I know all about the "do you need so much stuff?" brigade.

This has been my set up for nearly 12 years.......... After I finished my degree I travelled 20,000miles around North America with this set up and most summer holidays around Europe for six weeks at a time (I am a teacher).  This pic was taken in Bulgaria.

The blue tarp overhead is there to a) keep the sun off as it could easily hit 40oC, and to keep the rain off (when it rained, it REALLY rained!!) and my old creaky tent was not particularly waterproof!!  The tarp was held up with the cheapest washing line I could get my hands on.  Notice the flysheet of the tent has been put on inside-out with the silvered bit that is meant to keep you warm in colder climes on the outside.

When travelling for 6 weeks at a time (or ten weeks as in my trek around North America, I insisted on a few luxuries............... like a seat, but glamping that ain't!!  The table only got added in the last few years.

Just about everything packed into the boot of the car except for the bedding which I was happy to put on the back seat of the car as I did not want either of the two tarps getting it dirty.

By the way, my wife is a reception teacher and she has this class mascot that we would take pictures of doing cool things so to make a scrap book (every weekend the mascot would then go home with a different child and the scrapbook would grow that way........sweet, but it did mean that occasionaly we would pull this teddy out and start doing weird things with it in public places.....it's ok folks, we're teachers!!  We made so many friends wtih this, I tell you!!)

We now have an Outwell Hartford L (when we get the poles for it that is!!) and EHU  for the fan heater (essential for UK camping), kettle and lights (which is definitely glamping!!)  It kind of feels like I have sold out.  But then I tell myself, naaa...to hell with it.  As my OH is now expecting, though, I feel it is definitely justified.

I'm not sure the OP intended this as an "anti glamping" thread, in fact they said as much.

The OP's idea was, I think, for those of us who camp in a somewhat less co-ordinated and err attractive way to share our chaos!
