Next you'll be telling me that decimalisation has finally arrived and I can't get a quarter of Tom Thumb Drops for threepence ha'penny any more.

Me, I couldn’t care less what anyone takes with them when camping, it's their choice, I have no problem with that at all, it’s an each to his/her own scenario, all I ask is they use headphones when watching TV or playing music so as not to cause a nuisance to all camped around them, as you will be surprised at the lack of thought of some campers on this issue.

I just take a couple of good books and some wine & nibbles, which does me a treat.

I'd love to take one of those mini tvs that were around a few years ago just to prop on my pillow for evenings, but I had a look on the web a few weeks back and couldn't fin one - anywhere! I'm talking about those ones that were about the size of a pocket radio and came with earphones. Couldn't afford one when they came out and now that I possibly could scrape the money together ....

Mystery!

We've just thrown one of those away as it's now useless

Don't take a TV camping, as camping has always been outdoor adventure for us, and a TV would somehow spoil it.

We do have a TV in the static we stay at for our main summer holiday, though, because that is more like a hotel, and, like the bathroom, the fridge and the gas fire, the TV is just an extra bit of luxury.

I personally think you are right Friend of Owls, and my radio has been a delightful companion over the years - bit like having a friend in the tent with me.

Just my opinion, folks, please don't jump on me for it. This is a forum for discussion, and querying why some people do things isn't necessarily a criticism, only a query.

Room for us all.

We used to have one of those little tvs (or at least my brother did and he lent it to us). Used to get a grainy b&w picture. Became useless with the digital switch over.

It is easy to criticise the family who sits and watches TV, but you don't know their circumsises.    Last year Pip had had a major op on his leg, and when we were booking we did not know if he would still have the external fixator on his leg ( a whacking great metal contraption) so we booked a Park Resorts site so there would be things like a swimming pool on.   We had also been told that even when the things was removed it could be months before he could weight bare.
As it was he was lucky, surprising the consultants, as he healed really well.   Had he not, we would have been the family sitting in the camper a lot, possible watching TV.
OK he had to take things easy and build up his strength slowly - which knocked things like our usual walks etc out - but he could get and play in the park, and use the swimming pool. Wheelchair hardly used and crutches often left in the camper. (Alice spend hours in the pool.)

So provided that somebody's tv isn't so loud that it disturbs others, does it really matter how they spend their holiday.

I don't take a TV, but I am pretty lost without a little radio(note to self - little radio is broken - get a new one. If you don't you might cry...)

A TV is not my cup of tea, but if you want to take one along and don't disturb other people that's fine by me!

Have just read the whole of this thread with interest. I think many folks who take TVs are unnecessarily defensive here. Of course it's perfectly ok to take a TV. It's relaxing and keeps the kids happy in bad weather, and in any case, nobody should be objecting to how someone else camps. In fact, apart from the OP, I don't think there is a single post which suggests there is anything untoward in a family taking a TV, a laptop or a 76 inch cinema system with them camping!

But four posters have stated that they have been disturbed by noise from TVs. However, it's worth pointing out that disturbance can be caused by many, many things, and so the issue of noise pollution on campsites is not an issue of technology, but of consideration.

My worst holiday for noise was actually the one where I was disturbed by donkeys, foxes barking all night (yes, a wildlife privilege, but I got no sleep, and I could hardly complain to the farmer that he had a rowdy fox on his land!), lorries rumbling along the quarry road at six am., and The World's Loudest Snorer in the tent next door!

So as dmsplat says, I'm very happy to camp alongside people with TV or radios, or loud voices, so long as they are reasonably considerate at all times, during the day and during the night.

I find snorers tend to be very inconsiderate, the one in my tent regularly gets a kick!!

Not saying we use it every day cos we dont but its there if we want it.

Does this allow you to watch tv through your laptop? I would be interested in this

Hi Purplerain, no-one answered your question, so here you go: USB Freeview Tuner They are brilliant - if you have a decent capacity hard drive you can use your laptop to record programs and watch them later :)
