Why has no one mentioned an iPod and projector ? White sheet hung in side the tent sorted ! I wouldn't take a tv or wish to listen to the drivel that come out of it but a large family or group I can see the point . It use to be a treat to take kids to the cinema while on holiday especially if the weather really was bad but I can see that being a mager expense and a big chunk of a holiday budget .
Just an idea !

I've read this thread with so much interest, as I am packing to go away tomorrow. We bought an EHU this year for the first time, hubby and I have been camping for 15 years (since we were 17) but we now have a 3 year old to entertain. We managed without it last year, but decided we could do with a heater for the evenings and didn't feel a gas one was safe with my son running around. Now we have EHU, I'm debating taking the lap top to let my little lad watch a DVD or two if the weather turns bad.... he's a little young for connect 4 and Uno! lol! I'm leaving tomorrow and I still haven't decided whether as he watches enough Tv at home whether we should take it or just take waterproofs and let him splash if it's rainy..... actually writing this has just made up my mind.... I think he'd have more fun spalshing in puddles than watching TV!! Decision made!!!!

What goes on in other peoples tents is of no interest to me, as long as I can't hear it. I prefer to sit and relax on my new sofa with fluffy throw, a good book and glass of wine. With a view of the setting sun or clear skies. some low lighting or even camp fire outside.

On the other end of my tent is OH, he has purchased a small tv and wants to bring his ps3 to next camp. I'm not bothered as long as he has his headphones and is in the bedroom out of my way.

Does it really matter if people watch tv in a tent, provided that the volume is turned down.   Simple test is to walk to the edge of you pitch and check.   You do not get threads on tvs in caravans motor homes, and whilst I do appreciate that the sound proofing is a little better than a tent, on loud enough and you can still hear.
The odds are that those who have a blaring tv are the same ones who you would hear all over the site if they were sitting outside.
I take my kids DSs with me, not only do these keep them amused on the journey, but for my son who finds it difficult to make friends, they are a geat ice breaker, as he can often find a common ground in a game.
Just because somebody takes a tv with them does not mean that they do not do anything else.
As I have said, the only time that we took tv with us, via the laptop, I was really grateful, because it gave me something to do when sitting in with a puppy, whilst the rest of the group sat outside of an evening.

what i find most troublesome is the ingrained attitudes. Like
"If you take a TV you cannot enjoy the outdoors"
or
"Why don't you play cards or play games outside the tent"

A TV is not a substitute for anything, its an as well as.

We go to beaches, have long walks, enjoy sitting in the sun, my wife enjoys reading, listening to her IPOD, we go swimming, we go out day visiting.

but we like the TV for an hour when it gets to dark to do anything and too cold to sit outside. An hour before bed or an hour in the morning on a low volume so as not to Cannot anyone or anything.

The trouble is those that are most vocal about instantly assume it will be too loud, or you are not enjoying what camping is really about.

Everybody has a different Zen. My idea of a bliss holiday will not be your idea of a bliss holiday so why does everyone get so upset? Like in work and in life in general, you meet all sorts of people who have all sorts of opinions. You may not agree, but you probably don't go up to them and tell them they are a pain in the arse in person, so remember, we all camp, we all enjoy it, lets try not to get into spurious arguments about things that no one is going to agree on.

OP I like quilts, pillows and sheets in the bed areas, in the living area i do like the look of inflatable sofas but find they are so uncomfortable. We are plumping for decent moon chairs this year in the tent (quest deluxe) and royal commander chairs for outside. Oh yes and wife coordinates throws and table cloths in the same colour as the tent!

Other comforts include things like a blanket to wrap around me "grandad" style when it is a bit chilly.
one of my great pleasures is sitting outside my tent , first thing of a morning, with my cuppa and a book, watching how the site wakes up.   Often I find that at 7 it will be really quite, and the at 7.39' as if by magic it will be wide awake.
Last time I took mt Ipad, only to find that the cigarette lighter in the car was broken ( thanks kids), and we were non EHU.    As the weather was dreadful I could have done with something to keep me amused.   The kids went to the Wet Day Room, and played pool, watched a bit of tv in there and talked to the other kids.
All my plans for lovely walks etc were out, at it was freezing cold and lashing down almost all the time we were there.   Had I been able to charge my Ipad I could have got a weather forexast and found that the other side of Angelsey was a bit drier.

Here here John P, totally agree with everything you said.. :-)

Our TV volume never bothers anyone, because we have it on so low, we as a family are always respectful, and make sure our actions don't impede others enjoyment... shame not all have the same idea. The times we tell our girls to "whisper!!" in an evening, only to have some "half wits" walk by talking at the top of their voices (when children could be sleeping, and our baby back then was), it's incredible. Just because we take a TV, doesn't mean we're a family of Neanderthals :-) we walk, we travel, see different things, play games, talk etc etc, but yes we also like to wind down with a little TV.

And yes we have quilts, pillows, fan heater, etc etc... camping doesn't have to be an arduous challenge nowadays :-)

We occasionally take a laptop for dvds, we use earphones and a splitter because it gives much better sound for us and no sound at all for anyone else, so everyone's happy.

If only more people would follow your example, no-one would have cause to moan about tv's etc in tents.

To make our tent more comfy and homely we have throws, Kampa XL recliners and a heater. Love sitting there all snug reading or playing cards. We've taken a TV in the past - Royal Wedding last year and also when we camped in October. The volume was low and it couldn't be heard outside our pitch. It's what we wanted to do at the time to make our trip more enjoyable. I don't chastise people who take TV's at all. Do whatever makes your trip better for you.

We take duvets and pillows for out bed. DD will take her trunki with whatever is in it and some books (she's 3). I'm sure in the trunki will be some colouring stuff, some cars, a 'baby', her dominos (which we all play, they're picture ones so really good for her age), her kaleidscope etc.

We also take our mp3 players, our kindles and a radio.

I'm sure we'll also take our mini DVD player and a selection of DVD's, partly to occupy DD when we just want/need a break because we both work and she's an only child so we spend alot of time interacting with her and she's too young to be left to 'go off and play'

I would also say the carpet is a luxury as it our fan heater. This year I'm going to get myself a low wattage kettle so that I don't have to go outside to get hot water once I'm all settled, oh and out porta potti for the same reason.
