I’ve booked up also, however last time camping was when a Boy Scout and that was not yesterday.  I’m booked up for the Donington Historic Festival 3^rd to 5^th May, camping at the Donington Park Farmhouse.

I then thought I’d better have a test camp and see how I got on, you know, somewhere not to far from home, able to hop back in car if a disaster etc.  I found what would seem an ideal spot at Sallochy on the Banks of Loch Lomond. Tents only, organic toilets, water and not much else – oh and of course Loch Lomond which hopefully will be sans midgies this time of year. A good start I think. Once I got the camping bug when booking up on Sunday, thought I’d see what else was on offer, looks like the commercial type sites have a minimum of two days stay – and look as expensive as a B&B.  Perhaps they cater for a different type customer and offer features that do not appeal to me, I think simple tends to be best, however Fate will no doubt cause me to change my opinion. So, after looking around this site, I found ‘Seaview’ north of Oban.  Their web site would not open so I phoned, got diverted to an answer phone and looked at the time, after 6PM Sunday, a bit presumptions of me expecting a reply at this hour on a Sunday. I hung up with the intention of calling back the next day.  Thirty minutes later I got a call, chap called Duncan said he saw that he had a missed call. I apologised for phoning so late on a Sunday, he said ok, told him that I’d like to stay for a night, perhaps two if the weather was fine etc.  OK he said, whatever suits.  So booked in there, I must say Duncan came over as a Gentleman and the flexibility booking wise was very refreshing.

So the adventure begins.
