We have been known to take a Renault Grand Scenic AND a Berlingo with a roof bag and cycle rack on it !

Berlingo has more useable boot space, so we put all seats down and load that with tent etc etc etc, and most of the people travel in the Grand Scenic

We've just moved up from a megane scenic to a 58plate zafira the boot space is huge and you can also move middle seat row forwards to create even more boot space also have 420l roofbox which helps.

Well we've used 53 plate mondeo estate,56 plate vector estate, 09 golf estate plus roof bag and currently 13 plate Toyota aruis sport tourer plus roof box. All company cars so no option on what we get just fit everything in with 2 adults and now 2 teenage boys. So any medium size family estate should do most fine.

If I have to take the car, such as at a Scout District Camp of if I just fancy a bit more luxury like my Force 10 Mk 5, a cooler box and a few other bits, I take my truck

Toyota Hilux Invincible

It does everything I need it to

We've got a Peugeot 5008 (basically the same as the C4 Grand Picasso) and we used to have a Zafira.

The C4/5008 is slightly wider than a Zafira which makes a difference if you need to use the middle seat in the middle row. The rear seats work much better than the Zafira - They pop up/fold flat easily whereas the Zafira needs the middle seat folded up and pushed forward to get the rear seats up/down.

The Zafira has a bench seat for the middle row so it's nowhere near as versatile as the C4/5008 (individually folding and sliding seats).

Give some serious thought about what kind of mileage you cover and journey types. Most of our journeys are short and around town so we went for petrol. Diesel looks good   for consumption figures but read up about DPF or FAP system and factor them into your thoughts.

Thank you everyone for your informative replies....I agree with pwatson that our next purchase will be based on boot space and the economics of day to day life, the C4 Grand does have great reviews or boot space and fuel economy...it's actually cheaper to tax than our Picasso!!
Another car we are focusing on is the SEAT Alhambra which I don't think has been mentioned on here...yet.
With sliding rear doors and cavernous boot space, it could sway us....though not as eco friendly as the C4 it ticks other "life" boxes for us,my wife is a childminder by trade so suits our every day needs as well as making camping life a lot easier.
Decisions...decisions....

If I could have stretched to a (2nd hand) Alhambra for our most recent car, I certainly would have!

I the end, I had to settle for a (2nd hand) Galaxy, which is fine - but I do miss the slidey doors that I had in my old car. For me (well... for my wife), slidey doors alone aren't worth an extra £2k.

The decision we had to make re. full size MPV vs a more compact (S-max/touran/Zafira/C4) took a fair bit of discussion and was basically decided on the fact that we go camping 6-8 times a year and don't have anywhere to store a trailer.

We take our chrylser grand voyager its fab if you get the weight distribution right! All the seats stow away in the floor if need be. I have 3 children and the car consists of 2 seats in the middle and 3 at the back. I stow 1 middle one and 1 rear one on the opposite side. All the heavy bits go in the middle and are easilly accesable. sleeping bags and pillows go under the floor and the rest in the back! we dont need a roof box or trailer and even sometimes take a fire pit! And i do like my luxuries.

Oh and when on site i flatten all the seats over night and leave a spare airbed in there. So if the weather gets to wild we can all sleep safely in the back
