i had these worries before our first trip. On the first night i think i just cat napped waking every 20mins or so, shone torch around to check all ok then went back to sleep. Second night slept right through. But still doesn't stop me worrying about the kids. Dare say i won't sleep again on our first night of camping in may. Lots of good ideas on here.

Hi Steve, I've been looking at that life jacket unit, the bedroom has a built in ground sheet so would it still be possible to use something like that?

Does it have 2 zip pulls? If it does then you could secure the unit to one (cable tie?) and the pin to the other...

If you are securing the bedroom with you two in it then you could just lock the zips together with one of those padlocks you get on suit cases... put the key on a piece of string somewhere accessible (wear it like a necklace?) and maybe have something with a retractable blade (craft knife?) handy so that you can exit the tent in an emergency (make your own door...).  When I camp alone I always have a swiss army knife in the tent pocket, I could pretend that it's for fighting off bears but it's actually because it has a bottle opener on 

If you do that you can be sure no-one is going to enter or exit without permission.

Hi Steve, I'm hoping to get the tent out this weekend and then try the idea of a suitcase lock. Have to buy a small knife to keep near the bed too, a one with a bottle opener on, never know what that might come in handy for . Also I'm going to get a remote controlled light so if my daughter feels the need she can turn the light on to hopefully wake me.

Fingers crossed that the weathers ok this weekend and I'll give it a try
