I think the them and us is imagined by people in tents as i have never experieced it. In fact i have found that people in caravans are friendlier than people in tents. (By the way i have a tent)

For example when i went away once the toilets were closed and this couple came over to us and said if you need to use the loo just come and use ours. They also let us use the shower in their van to hose the kids down.

We are members and tenters too.  We joined cos our favourite local site is a CC&C one.  We are off there this weekend as it happens.  This is the Graffham site, its rather large, but we have a favourite pitch and also EHu, so are close to the facilities (with a 3 year old, we need to be).  We have walked around the site and have noticed that a lot of the tent pitches are a fair way from toilets (even though there is another small block of loos at the bottom of the site), but dont see this as a problem as many people seem to choose to pitch down there.

We have stayed this year on a couple of non CC& C sites this year, one was awful, really cramped and we hated it.  We did have a drive round the area and found a CC&C site a mile or so away, so will use that on in the future.  I must admit we love the peace and the fact that we arent on top of other peeps, thats what attracts us to their own sites.

Having said that, the magazine is more geared up towards caravans, but who knows they may one day make it more half and half.

Self and family have just returned to camping (tent), after going to the dark side (caravanning), and on doing so promptly rejoined camping and caravanning club, however on visiting our first club site (Ravenglass, Lake District) we feel that although this is a camping and caravanning club site, tents seem to play second fiddle to caravans and motor homes. Although the welcome, the facilities and the general upkeep of the site were excellent, we felt the tent area for the site was an after thought, it being at the furthest end of the site from toilet and shower block,this is a bit of an epic with 3 small kids in the middle of the night!.

Although we understant that not all club sites are the same, we just felt that this is the CAMPING and caravan club,but for this site more like the caravan club.

We used the C&CC site at Ravenglass earlier this year.  It's a franchised site and so is not owned by the club although it is run along club lines.  We noticed that the areas for tents were at the top and bottom of the site furthest away from the toilets and facilities.

While we were there a youth group on their Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme expedition were camped in small two-man tents among the trees next to the toilets and facilities.

I can only imagine that when the decision was taken to upgrade the site in the recent past, they decided to dig out and level various pitches.  While they were at it they must have reached the conclusion that they might as well create the numerous handstandings there are today.  Perhaps they didn't think new grass would be ready in time for this season.  My own view is that a row of pitches above the toilet block could have been left as grass.  Not all caravanners need or want hardstandings.

Having said all that Jason, I hope you and the children enjoyed the area, the Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway and the various other attractions.

Dingwall( handy for Inverness and lovely site), Glencoe, and Inverewe Gardens.

CCC sites are brilliant and very reasonable. My one slight complaint is there are no All the Year sites in Scotland or the North of England as far as I know. Pity because I'm hoping to do a fair bit of winter camping.

You're quite right about Scone.Fantastic and almost the centre of Scotland
