Have you thought it was the Black Country accent - and that she didn't understand a word you said

I've lived here for over ten years and I still struggle to understand the OH, never mind the in-laws

Oh folks, lets not pigeon hole us newbies please!

My OH and I have been together 17 years and only have 4 holidays, neither of us are huge holiday fans (although I do love the sun) but my hubby does not really likes going abroad, says its too boring sitting by a pool in the sun.  Camping offers him more fun and activity at his own leisure.

I did not know camping was the new fashion as my parents always took me and my brothers as children.  Anyway, we have had 2 short family camping trips and its nice to be nice to everyone and stop and have a little chat to and from the loo etc.  This weekend I was chatting to a woman (know all about her bowel trouble now) but I happily listened, was not really interested, but there was no way I was going to be rude or ignore her.

I am saddened some of you have implied, no stated, newbies are unfriendly and their camping sessions wont last long - although we are new, we are already thinking about what sort of tent we would get next and about all the lovely places in the country we can go to see.

Yes I do have a dog and do like the idea of camping for my dog, but mainly to get away from playstation and TV and spend some quality time with the kids as our daughter is already 15 and soon wont want anything to do with us.  The son is 7 and loves to be out in the open, we have a small back garden (cant even put the tent up in it!) and camping gives him the space to run about and go daft - the dafter the better as he goes to bed earlier and we can play cards 'harder' card cames with our daughter.  He understands camping rules, not running inbetween tents, being 'nice' to others, rubbish back to tent etc

So far I have not found anyone rude, I know it is early days, but if someone did ignore me, fine, thats their progative, totally up to them.  I would probably repeat my hello, morning or whatever, but at the end of the day, its their loss, cos I have loads of wine I am happy to share lololol.

Seriously tho, give us a chance, not all newbies and rude   I was sad to read some of you think that.

Talking about signs on windbreakers, I think I will make a flag saying "we are new to camping but ARE nice people - ok the littleun might be a bit flighty, but we are not rude"

i have to agree wen we go the neighbours are always freindly unless its a caravan or trailer tent type then they seem to think they to good - daft sods  some1 shud tell them they paid more to sit in same field looking at same scenery but its more fun putting up tent u actually feel like u on holiday

as for some1 staring and being ignorant or nosey the reply from me would be -------

"one moment ill go inside i got some ready made photos for u to keep if u really want i will even sign it"

that generally causes them to either run very quickly in side there tent or they burst out laughing  and ull become mates lol

usually the first tho

Yes, yes, yes. As newbies we like to think of ourselves as polite and friendly. always say hello and will pass the time of day. and yes, our seven year old can be a pain in the ar$e but he's 7.

Camping is a state of mind, not  as Hendrix would say - Are you experienced?

We need some grumpies and rude people. It shows us how nice the rest of us are.!

Roll with the punches and shake hands not fists.
