I've only ever seen one bloke camping on his own and that was in the early days of our camping so i wasn't so sure of what was and wasn't acceptable on sites lol.  I admit that i did keep giving him looks.  But in my defense it was the do i don't i chat to him or not or will he think i'm feeling sorry for him kind, when really i'm envious of the peace and quiet he must be having lol.

I think if you do receive looks then i'll bet they are jealous ones cos i know i wouldn't dare go alone lol

Ah, that was you was it?

LOL re: Nookie Tent! 17

Use your imaginations 1717

Another reason to go camping alone, one can always invite peeps round to the campsite for a drink/meal/whatever, without the need to tidy one's home, magic! 17

From memory I think Ive only ever seen one fella and one lady solo campers..

The fella admittedly was with a group of canoeists...but on his own within the group...He had pitched besides me...and when the younger members headed for the pub...myself and him got chatting over a cuppa...From our talk I found out that he was in his late 70's early 80's..On the death of his wife had joined the club...built his Canadian canoe from scratch and most w/ends was to be found paddling down the river staying at diffrent sites...or wild camping on the banks...If no site was available..Did admit that at the end of the day he prefered to catch up on his rest(from the exertions of the day) and his staying by the tent while the others went to the pub was in no way him being unsociable..A really nice..interesting old fella who seemed to have found a new lease of life within the club...And certainly showed more vigour and passion for his new hobby than I could have

There is a difference between being alone and being lonely.

I am alone but never lonely.

Much as I like being with people, I like spending time on my own to do as I please.

I can't imagine ever living with anyone again to be honest, as I guess I have grown more selfish as I grow older.

I'll brave the elements and join the South West group camping in South Devon during the New Year weekend.

I'll try out my cold weather set up in Oct 09 at a site near home where I am staying at present.

The past couple of nights had been so cold that the heater was on nearly all the time, and this is supposed to be blooming Aug 09! I had warmer weather in Jun and Jul this year!!!

And the campsite ran out of hot water in the shower. Serves me right to crawl out of bed after 09:00h. I hardly slept the first night, seldom do, and the farm animals and dogs just did not appreciate the meaning of weekends! Fancy mooing at 04:00h in the morning!

One more night, then back home and work until 18 Sep 09 when I shall go camping again, can't wait!

DK 17

P.S. Peeps at work think I am mental to go camping on my own, however, nothing shocks them anymore 17

DK I share your first 4 comments and your PS. Being alone again after over 32 years marriage and aged 53 I decided to solo camp. Friends tried to persuade me against but family accepted my decision. This year I went camping again for first time in 4 years. Daughter and 3 grandchildren in their tent, me in mine. Was enjoyable but I soon realised why I go solo.

Was looking forward to meeting others at Pillaton but daughter's health has deteriorated, she needs a heart operation so I'll be busy helping family. Hopefully more solo camping next year.

The way I see it is that if you enjoy it, sod what other people thing.    I wish that I had had the guts to do it when I was single.

Couldn't agree more, why worry what other people think? After all you have invested in your camping gear, paid your site fees and have every right to keep yourself to yourself. Blokes have no problem with this and we actually thrive on "me time". Just smile back at these people as you let everyday stress ebb away....and maybe boil another brew :-)
