I think one of the problems of what constitutes a gem of a site is that everybody's ideas are different - as indeed are our needs. For some EHU is essential - not to run the kettle etc but for a small fridge to keep meds cold, or similar, and much as they would to stay in a middle of a field with one loo/shower and a tap this is not possible.
Also with kids you may well find a site with more than one shower a must, especially if you are going for more than a couple of nights. I could manage for a weekend with only one or even no shower, but with to kids who frequently end up looking like urchins when they have been playing a shower is a must. A play area on site usually means that I will loose them fo a couple of hours, so that I can sit and read. Much as we love doing family things together, the last thing they want is to be with me all the time when they are on holdiay - and let's be honest the last thing I want is to have to keep them amused all the time. We all need a bit of space. I am one of those people that like to see the kids all playing together and enjoying themselves on holiday.
When I do a reveiw things like the showers - are the cubicles large enough for mum and little one, and is there a decent play area for the kids are more important go me than the nearest pub - as I know that otehr parents may be looking for the same thing.
