Cazz I think Jelboy uses Stopbite and swears by it. I use Smidge and swear by that! Others use Avon Skin so Soft. The trouble is, what works for one person, won't necessarily work for another so I am afraid it can be a bit of trial and error before you find something that works for you but dont let the little blighters put you off - plan b is a midgie net!
Thanks for that, remember Val was mentioning bog
myrtle now, think you told us already. Apparently you can
find it in shops in the Lake District where I just happen to be heading on Sunday so shall have a hunt for it.
Have already got the Avon stuff but your midgies probably laugh at that so will get Stopbite as backup.

Not only do our midges laugh at the Avon stuff but they actually use it as sun tan lotion
I've tried every know midge repellent under the sun, or rain being more appropriate for Scotland lol, Smidge is the only thing that works for me. I was eaten alive in just a few minutes in Skye last year when a Dutch couple sat in tshirt and shorts seemingly unscathed. They loaned me some Smidge and I was out first thing next day to purchase some. It does not stop
the beasties flying around you but they don't bother landing.

I think the midge just has to be accepted as an occupational hazard while pursuing any outdoor activity especially here in Scotland!! But I underline what I have said before....Do not let that put anyone off visiting some great areas of outstanding natural beauty...Research and prepare for the midge as much as you can..and you should win some battles with them...Though the war is ongoing....
