Prices vary dramatically depending upon location, amenities, EHU, etc etc.
However, we generally pay £20-£25 per night with EHU at the places we visit. There are 2 adults and 2 kids 2 and 7. I actually don't think camping is cheap anymore. However, it's still great fun and gets you away at the drop of a hat. I think you are right to consider B and B and hotels for certain vacations, we do, but still enjoy the camping.
We've never camped because it was a cheap holiday, but because we enjoy the family time together, being outdoors and working together, exploring new areas and loads of other reasons!

Oooooh I'm gunna look into the Haven option, thanks!! Unfortunately I am on a budget, darn being a single working mum :-( I only work in term time so school hols and weekends is all I can manage, definitely will think about Haven for a impromptu weekend away :-)
Same here, I am a TA. Ifind haven can be expensive in hols £40ish a night. We use Park Resorts a lot and find they're a good comprimise between price and facilities at about £27 a night. Also, if you are booking for weekends it's often cheaper to book fri-monday breaks! We make sure the car is packed the night before and leave straight from school and come back on the sunday night. The Sun sometimes do £1 camping vouchers also which you can use at Park Resorts up until the start if the school hols. I haven't seen any this year but used them the previous 2 summers and saved a fortune; 3 x friday-monday breaks cost us £17 each trip once you add on passes.
We are members of the C & C club but have only every used their tiny sites (are they called certified?).
Anyway, we have a couple of days free this week and I thought that we could go to Sandringham as our favourite small site on the coast is full (only 20 mins from home).
I filled in the online booking form - £86.10 for two adults, child, dog, non-electric pitch - midweek for two nights.
We are going to Clumber Park instead - £30 for two nights - big difference.
I am amazed that the big C & C club sites are so expensive. Not usually what we go for so I have never looked before but £43 a night is madness.

Thank Mazda! I've literally been waiting months for these! Gonna make sure I buy about 5 papers a day hehe.
Looks like they'll be useable through the hol's too!!
It can be expensive. We usually have 6 of us plus a dog and an extra car. Most sites add surcharges for every person after 2, for the dog, the extra car, the larger tent...not to mention the extra fuel in the 2nd car. So for us it can be expensive.
