How he loved to lead the family in a little sing along in the awning at night. He even encouraged the little ones to do a spot of dancing to some of his merrier numbers. They'd put down some sort of vinyl on the floor and there was a loud clippy clippy noise as they skipped their way through the country dances.

Well we have been camping for a couple of years now and only once were we kept awake at night and that was at a UK Campsite meet up in Settle, so just for sport Elizabeth and i got up really early and made as much noise as possible.

We are early risers and i am always up at 5am, i make sure i am quiet, Elizabeth doesnt wake normally until 7am.we enjoy our evenings also, elizabeth plays til she cant no more and falls asleep imediately, Peter and i enjoy a few glasses of wine and we read or play cards.

We behave ourselves and respect other people (if they deserve it )

Wow what a thread !!!

Gonna put my tuppence worth in now.I have an 8yr old daughter who absolutely loves camping and everything it involves. We have house rules which are based on consideration, courtesy and commonsense-way better than the 3Rs lol. These house rules become tent rules while we are camping. It has nothing to do with control but self respect and respect for other people.I also go to smaller campsites which also have rules ie no noise between 11pm-7am so everyone gets a good nights sleep.6m firebreak so we are not looking into the nearest unit.No cars on site at night-if you go out and come back late you need to park in the overnight car park and walk. The only noise if you can call it that is the sound of the dawn chorus-no sweeter sound in my opinion.

Before our daughter was born ,we used to camp in a field in our little Khyam Highlander tent, trangia and a stand pipe nearby for water and it was heavenly but we were often woken by sheep outside our tent-how inconsiderate they were  Then we didn't camp for a long time while our child was not sleeping at night, teething, colic and all the other problems that come with babies. Now she is at an age where she appreciates the fun and pleasure of camping, but people keeping you awake at night, there's no fun in that ,is there?

My mum lives in Wales and there is only 1 house within 1/2 a mile.  Between the large amounts of sheep, my grandma's donkey (they can hear her nearly 2 miles away) and next door's chickens it is really noisy at times.  Nice noise but noisy!

Wow, what a thread!!

I can understand that people want to stop up and have a few drinks, after all they are on there hols. And i can also understand that people have a right to expect a nights sleep, especially if the sites have a no noise after a certain time policy.

I like to have a bit of both myself (greedy i guess) I like to have a drink at night, but i also respect the fact that others may not, and so keep noise down to a minimum.

We also take the kids camping, and have made them understand that people don't want them kicking balls around there tents, or running around shouting, etc.

I agree with what others have already stated..... a little consideration goes a long way.

We've found ourselves in a catch 22 position this year. Last year was our first year camping, over 2yr old slept well considering (8-6/6:30). Unfortunately this year we went with little baby (who was no trouble) and 3yr old who only slept 10:30 - 5 It was so stressful trying to get her to sleep (without screaming in protest) and keeping quiet in the morning when she was so excited that apart from a big church holiday we booked a year ago we're not going camping again this year   If we were on a noisy site then our 3yr old's noise wouldn't have been a problem but we'd have little chance of getting her to sleep anyway. Not sure what the future holds for us camping...

From tents to trailer tents to a tin tent to an air tent to trailer tent and back to tin tent!

That's tough! Hopefully she'll grow out of it quickly so you can continue to enjoy camping.  Although it can be annoying if you are woken up/ kept awake by small children it doesn't frustrate me like adults or older kids who should know better.  At three she probably doesn't understand that she maybe keeping others awake.  That's irritating, but excusable in my book and as I said in an earlier post, camping is about live and let live.
