Mmm reading all the comments here most are quite funny and tongue in cheek, some clearly show a real 'it's all about me' kinda of attitude. I camp with my family of 2 adults 2 kids, 1 teenager and a well behaved cocker spaniel, in both the UK & France and have not had many problems with noise and/or rudeness in fact when problems have occurred, they have been more of the drunken 40something in full X Factor mode in the middle of the night (now where is a kid with a football when you need one?)

We all get annoyed over something or other but then we have a choice. I wouldn't book a campsite that had no kid’s area, playground etc and therefore let my kids run wild, no do I expect a 'couple' to book a family site and bitch about the noise, kids, babies crying

Summer is just round the corner, let's all have a fab camping time, respect our fellow camper regardless of age or music choice (nothing wrong with the 80s). I'm off to Parc des Allcourts in France again and can't wait. If you're there we will be the family quietly reading the classics by the lake ...yeah right 17

Well said Tiger Lily.17

Because I have kids I choose a site with a play area - and because a site has a play area I expect, and hope that there will be kids other than my own on site.
I expect to her kids shout, scream, laugh etc.    At the same time, I expect parents to exercise a degree of control so that the kids are not running wild.
I have only ever had my tent hit by a ball the once - and by the looks of things they were new campers and I don't think they realised that a football around other peoples tents was a NO NO.

I expect to hear people chatting outside their units until gone 10 at night - but come curfew I expect it to quieten down.
Have only come across drunken behaviour that carried on unabated most of the night the once - and sadly the site owners were more interested in enforcing the fact that the right car was parked outside the right tent, then doing anything about these drunked idiots.

I don't mind if an obviously upset child cries, even at three in the morning, as a parent I have been there.   Nor if you hear from another tent a mum(or dad) desperately trying to keep a little one amused at 5 am.    I have been there.     Alice went through a phase of waking up at around 4 am, because the sun was shinning and the birds were singing therefore it must be morning.    Fortunately she only did it one mornign when we were camping.
Big difference in this and letting your little ones run riot at first lighht/

Yes there does need to be rules - such as 11pm quiet.
But there is no need for some of the silly rules that appear at some sites.

Wouldn't it be nice if there were 'early risers' and 'up late' areas for camping?  Must admit, when I'm kept awake late at night by the tent next door, I do feel some smug satisfaction that the baby will be up before 7am...17

That said, we do try to stay quiet until 8, though 'quiet' with a 3 and 1 year old is a pretty loose term 17

Only charcoal proprietary BBQs are allowed was one I came across recently. I wrote to the site and asked why, as I planned to use a gas BBQ, and they replied it will be fine. The reason why they stated only propriatary charcoal BBQs are allowed is to stop peeps from taking woods from the forest nearby to start a campfire/BBQ, which makes sense.

I have come across this no heater with EHU before, and I can appreciate why, as it is very easy to overload the 10 AMP supply and take out the EHU for fellow campers. I checked to make sure my heater is not too powerful for the EHU before I used it. It is very difficult to police though, as I doubt if the wardens would do a tent by tent search for heaters!

I made a choice a long time ago not to have kids, and I avoid going on holidays during school holidays, and am lucky enough to be able to choose pitches that are away from play areas except once.

All the kids I have met so far appeared to be well behaved, even better behaved than their pets sometimes!

Oooo, and I have read no charcoal BBQs in a French campsite, so I got prepared, and got myself a Cadac Safari Chef HP!

yes i nearly got caught out a few weeks back, nearly booked manor farm in norfolk.

till i read the small print on the web site, no mention of it in the reviews but.?????

NO MOTORCYCLES.  how embarasing to turn up after a 200 mile ride to be turned away.

still searching for another site.

stu.

That's the sort of rule that hacks me right off. Obviously, they don't want a chapter of Hell's Angels turning up for a weekend of snakebite and axe-throwing competitions, but most bikers these days (imho) are middle class, middle aged and thoroughly respectable.

It smacks of prejudice imo, and a reluctance to treat people as adults and address problems IF they arise.

Too true. Me and OH are bikers. I'm Knocking on 57 and OH is 52. I find it annoying that we are acceptable if we turn up in a car but not if were on our bike.

Therefore maybe it should be like when you buy a telly now, the store registers you, so you need a TV licence.  If you buy a tent, you should be registered on here and given the advice pages, you new potential campers know how to behave !!!

  Best wishes Sam

Lol!

Maybe it should go a stage further, no camping without a licence. To get your camping licence, you should have to undergo an approved course of study and pass a test to demonstrate you know camping etiquette and how to camp safely. 17

The people who just go for a p!ss-up under canvas probably couldn't be bothered, and wouldn't bother us again.

Would this mean a theory and practic exam to get a licence to camp, bet the 'shed draggers' are rubbing their hands together, or should they have to do these exams also..... oh fran.... please

Chris.

How many campers have have 'toilets' in their tents, Re:P!ss-up under canvas, or have I miss-under-stood.
O H keeps telling me I get the wrong end of the stick

Shed draggers would have to pass the general camping theory and practical first, then do two more sets of exams: Shed-dragging on the Highway and The Stationary Shed.17

Only then would they be allowed to uncap that tow-bar!

Here are a few good rules from this weekend......

No open fires or firepits of any kind. But they sell those instant firelog things at reception!

Gazebos are allowed but not next to the tent or as an awning. So you put them on someone elses pitch? Or in the middle of the play area???

Dogs are welcome (1 per booking) but on the entire site  they must be on  a lead at all times apart from the parts of the site where this is not required 17

Shaking my wise head now lol

Angie
