We only managed a week away this year - our first family holiday in our own tent. I'd spent all year planning an itinerary with one plan for sunny days and one for wet days. Unfortunately, youngest daughter fell over and broke her arm on the second day so all our plans went out the window . Two days were taken out with A&E and then the fracture clinic... but on the plus side we actually relaxed and spent a lot of time chilling at the campsite, actually enjoyed each other's company and met some lovely people (eldest daughter had her first holiday "romance" aged 8½ - bless).

We'll try for two weeks away next year, no broken bones and hopefully some more sunshine!

I'm planning lots of short trips for next year.

Only problem is that I can only convince other people to go from the beginning of spring lol

Upload your pictures to a host site like photobucket.
Right click the image on host site and "copy image URL"
Using the ukcs message reply box click the second icon from the right looks like a picture of a tree, right click paste the image url, then ok.
Finally click the preview post button, which opens your post in a new window so you can check it before posting. You can play around using the preview window untill you master it so you don't post loads of empty threads.

Hope this helps and welcome to UKCS

Appologies for ressurecting a thread but I've been away from the forum for a few weeks. My highlights mostly centre around nostalgia during my two camping trips this year for which I backpacked.

My first trip was to Rhuddlan in North Wales, my first camping holiday since one with my parents when I was about 16. I spent a good four days wandering around the local area and visited my paternal grandparents grave. The tent I took had a few scary moments when the wind was bad, and it rained heavily one day but other than that things were fine.

The second trip was to Bangor in North Wales. My paternal grandparents owned a cottage near here until I was about 11 and we spent many holidays there. Sadly it was demolished to make way for a bypass and the site is virtually unrecognisable now, but I spent a happy three days wandering around the area seeing shops and landmarks that were so familiar to me. The weather again wasn't perfect but the tent held up ok.

I've enjoyed being a member of this forum learning some good info and benefiting from everyone's experience. I now own two tents, a 2 berth Gelert Eiger which I used on the two trips and a single berth Pro-Action hike lite tent. I plan to use the latter on a trip around Anglesey, walking the coastal path and spending each night at a campsite (except one night at Beaumaris as I need to recharge things like my MP3 player). I'm in the midst of planning this now and still find it hard to believe that one night at the hotel costs nearly as much as the other 4-5 put together!

If you get yourself a solar charger you won't need to spend any nights in a hotel.....for instance
this but there are quite a lot out there!

Thanks for the advice Katie, I have considered a Solar Charger but in the end went for a Power Monkey (which cost about £20 I think) on the grounds that the solar ones were either very expensive or had mixed reviews as to how effective they were in getting power from sunlight. The Power Monkey can recharge my MP3 fully twice but sadly only recharges itself from the mains.

I also figure that by the time I reach Beaumaris I'll be half way around the island and glad of one night's luxury in a bed!
