What's wrong with smoking outside?  People who smoke the less than legal stuff have had to smoke outside for years.  You never hear them complaining.  They're glad of the company.

Exactly Karen + Peter , you dont hear us moaning

well, a very provacative subject indeed. I stand by what Ive posted ages ago. And whether you are pitched next to me with your children (which generally i can't stand too noisy and unruly for which i do blame the parents) quite frankly i could'nt give too hoots if my smoke blows in your direction or not, using threatning behaviour or otherwise does not scare nor intimidate me. Until a blanket no smoking law comes into force as long as i am abiding by the rules (often stupid) of this land i will continue to light up where i am legally allowed to do. As for you phatdad i suggest you find a job which keeps you in the clean fresh air inside a public area instead of the outside which us dirty fithly smokers are. Maybe that is a step too far as then you would have nothing to moan about, or is that the only career available????

Frankly 10 years ago none of this would have got a monkeys armpit response. I am saddened by the replies and the attitude that non smokers are some kind of god we should all obey.

The last time i looked, we lived in a free democratic country and everyone had a right to do the things they enjoyed, I suggest we ban outdoor activities as they obviously put a strain on the emergency services with their selfish and reckless pursuits, there how do you feel about that.

You may live in a free democratic country however where has the consideration gone for other people?  It may not be illegal however, to me, it is bad manners to smoke if you are aware the smoke is going over other people?

We are not some god that should be obeyed we are people that have made a personal choice not to smoke but are being forced to breath the fumes from smokers who think their lifestyle choice is of greater importance than ours.

I also can't believe that my comments are deemed as threatening when your 'If you don't like it then tough' comment is not.  I was shadowing your aggressive undertone in my reply and find it amazing that you take offense to my reply while thinking it's fine to give someone with concerns about the health of their children a 'tough sh!t', bolshie answer.

As to whether I'm only qualified to be in a trade, of many thousands, who each weekend save lives, protect mothers, fathers, daughters, sons and other loved ones from people prepared to glass, bottle or kick the crap out of others at the drop of a hat.  Who keep strict control over health and safety regulations, are a shoulder to cry on, a social worker and councilor to the many emotional drinkers.  And are able to respond quickly and effectively to subdue and calm volatile situations.  Have extremely good communication skills, and work hand in hand with the emergency services to help police the venues and the streets of all of our cities and towns, and to do all of this before considering our own health and safety, then the answer is no.  I am more than qualified to do many careers however only a small percentage allow you to make such a difference to society.

It's of no real importance what career I do in relation to this discussion but I have since left the doors due to the sudden increase in trouble I faced night after night.  It's strange how the sudden increase occurred at the same time smokers had to smoke outside the venues.  Rude, obnoxious and selfish smokers would take offence when I politely asked them to move a short distance away from the entrance where myself and other door staff (some of whom were smokers too) were stood trying to work while surrounded by a cloud of noxious fumes. They'd also take offense that they couldn't take their drink out with them, or that they couldn't stand in the doorway and shelter from the rain despite their being a big queue of people waiting to enter and who couldn't because smokers were causing arguments.  But, if you want to continue using a 1980's stereotype of a bomber jacket wearing thug kicking the crap out of anyone and everyone then please feel free to be so prejudiced as it's nothing new.  Me, I'll go out of my way to be nice and helpful even if that means moving my spittoon to the other side of my tent so I don't accidently cover my neighbors children with saliva if the wind changes.

I now have six weeks holiday before I go back to work in a public, fresh air filled environment so I'm quite looking forward to it.

Oh and Rumple if you're going to try and demean me at least try something original and not dating back to the same era as the stereotype mamfa holds about 'bouncers'.

Just the type of reply that tars (excuse the pun) all the decent smokers. Your parents would be so proud!

I'm inclined to agree actually with phatdad.

If I was smoking my hookah and It was upsetting the neighbours, it would be extinguished post-haste without debate, or moved to an area where it did not create a problem.

I have a right to smoke, others have a right to clean smoke-less air. We need to come together and be reasonable and considerate. This is why I started this thread to gauge reactions.

mamfa's attitude is exactly what smokers (whatever they smoke) don't need

Johnny.

My opinion for smoking on campsites is....

I smoke in my tent, coz I smoke in my house

I will smoke outside my tent coz its an open field

I wont drop fag butts coz I have ashtrays

I wont smoke in communal areas, EG: dishwashing area, launderette, etc

If others dont like that.... TOUGH!

Well Done That Man,I am sick of being told what I can and cant do this is supposed to be a FREE country millions died for it if we want to smoke its our personal choice.

Are we still going at eachothers throats, here?!

I think it all has been said in numerous other threats and it's getting to be pretty boring to read it again and again with the same rants and arguments just from other people. As an older member, I find it strange that relative newcomers to this camping forum can have such an aggressive attitude towards eachother or a topic such as smoking.

As said by smokers and non-smokers: live and let live and be considerate while we share a same hobby: Camping.

To the trolls that might be lured to this threat, I can only say: Get a life and stop fanning flames that are not there with stupid remarks and a display of supposed antisocial behaviour whether you smoke or not.

just to say, i do not have a bad attitude, i do actually respect the non smokers and really wish i could be one, one day i may join their ranks. This thread has proved it is still a touchy subject, and as for my comments, playing devils advocat is a bad thing and i cant help myself. If anyone was offended then i'm sorry, i'm not going to fan the flames anymore. My parents are proud of me as my mum taught me to stand up and be counted, even if it gets me into trouble, which it does. I'll go back to being my normal self now, which is respectful of people and their opinions. as an ex publican i have always admired the courage and calmness the door staff i have employed in the past, after recieving a bottle in the face they have all provided me the security i could no longer do after that incident, so phatdad to you i apologise, and to the parents of wonderful children who do not run around screaming for no apparent reason i also apologise, sometimes the best sound i hear is them laughing like they have never laughed before. life is too short to argue and this is my last post on this subject.

hahaha, i'm not actually that bothered about smokers either I just didn't like the 'tough titties' part of your message so decided to play devils advocate too. I also like a lively debate which this was.  Sorry to anyone offended etc.

If there is a no smoking sign don't smoke, if shelters are provided use them, I promise not to break wind sitting next to you if you promise not to smoke next to me!

As an ex smoker and one who is dieing because of it I can assure all participants to this thread that smoking is bad for you, although I am also aware that it can act as a relaxant and that is when we start to get hooked on it.

As long as we ALL respect each others rights as human beings then the world would be a much better place.
