I don`t know if agree with the last statement that you only camp because you can`t afford a van,we started off tenting for the freedom and friendlyness of everybody involved in a global outdoor pursuit, yes there is a certain amount of snobbnish amongst all groups, but that dosn`t mean were all the same.I`d still like to have another tent but unfortunatley my knees won`t let me,the standard of sites and tents are far superior than they were 30yrs ago and I`m envious when I see modern tents but it wouldn`t stop talking to tenters all because I have a nice van.Maybe we are missing a trick when doing what we enjoy, has the industry created a new monster through the new technology.

Live and let live we have one shot at this life lets get on and enjoy.

have not come up against any problems with caravaners, but definately that campers have more fun. Every one talks to each other and all have agreat time. My sisiter has a touring caravan an dshe says no one ever talks to her and family.......but that might just be them!!!!

Personally I feel caravaners aren't looking down their noses, they are envious of us hardy campers

Only thing I can say people in caravans are cheating it not camping it's mobile luxary.

15 of us went camping the other week all of us in tents apart from my parents they were in a £25000 motorhome, even they said they felt as if they were cheating as they used to camp in tent.

Handy having family go camping that has a caravan or motorhome as you can use there fridge or oven if they have one.

I don't think most caravanners think they are camping.  For some of us, caravanning is the nearest we can get to camping at an advanced age with all the aches, pains and disabilities that come at that age.

I willing to bet that quite a few of todays caravanners who have reached a 'certain age' have camped in tents for longer than many of the younger ones posting here have been alive.

That's the trouble with generalisations and sweeping statements.
