They didn`t give you the 700 by mistake, did they? Because you`re right, it shouldn`t stick out. If it does the water will collect on it and channel right under the tent, and you`ll be walking on water for the rest of the holidays....
Well I purchased a groundshhet for our Diablo 900 and that is also about 6 inches bigger than the tent all round. We end up folding it back under the tent groundshhet once it is all set out.
I`ve never owned a SIG tent so never any need for a footprint groundsheet, thus I have a question about them. Is it possible they`re made in such a way so as the edges are meant to flip up between the inner and outer? Are there any splits at the corners that would facilitate this? Are there attachments at ground level between flysheet and inner that would prevent this? Enquiring mind would like to know.

More great advice here. I already see my groundsheet is too big.<!-- Signature -->
Andrew yours is a different set up. Your groundsheet is meant to sit inside the fabric of your tent and curl up the walls by a few inches. It's correct that it is a bit bigger.
Footprints go under sewn in groundsheets of tents. Their only purpose is to avoid the SIG getting wet, dirty or damaged - they are groundsheets for groundsheets!!

There are no splits at the corners, only eyelets to peg the thing down. How ridiculous that they make them bigger than your tent, so after pitching the thing, you have to go round take out the pegs and tuck it under !
That problem is easy to solve. Get a new tent with a bathtub groundsheet. We did and its as if you are in your house. Really warm and no leakage. xxx Maybe you should try to find a way to attach it inside the walls of the tent somewhere?

With a frame tent, it is okay if the groundsheet is a bit big, since it will just sit on top of your mudflaps and then can be folded under to size.
It is just with SIG tents (sewn in groundsheet), which can have an optional footprint groundsheet (groundsheet to mirror the size and shape the tent occupies, ie its 'footprint'), placed under the SIG to help protect it from damage etc, which have problems with water channelling between the two groundsheet layers, if the footprint groundsheet extends further than the tent.
