Hi John & welcome to the forum
If you can't afford to change the tent, you could 'phone your local camping shop to ask if they sell odd fibreglass poles, then take one of the poles with you & ask their advice about buying the next thickness size up - I've done this with a tent which had very thin fibre poles, and the thicker ones fit okay & seem to have done the trick. However, if it's a large tent work out the cost of replacing all the poles & decide whether it's worth it.
