Hi

Does anybody have recomendations for under mattress insulation? We have a Coleman comfort inflatable mattress and was wondering what other people use.

Many thanks

There are 2 camps on this one - some folks say the insulation is best placed between you and the airbed (to provide a layer between your warm bod and that slab of cold air!) others say to put it under the airbed to seal it from the cold ground.

Frankly I have tried both and find that insulation between you and the airbed is the most crucial layer, but a layer under the airbed too definitely adds more - so we do both and it eliminates condensation build up and damp bedding!

We have foam camping mats underneath, and a fleece blanket under our sleeping bags. Other folks on here have found that the insulating stuff you use with wooden floors makes a cheap and effective layer. An old quilt or sleeping bag would also do the trick, there is no need to splash out on anything fancy.

With Foggers on this one.  Two layers - one below the airbed - v.cheap foam camp mats in our case and one on the airbed for you to lie on - we put our better 3 season camp mats on top.  This has always kept us very snug!

We use two layers as well, a silver foil camp mat (these ones) under the air bed and then a sheet on top of the mattress.

Must admit that I am fed up with the air beds and I am looking at getting decent camp mats instead as you don't really have that problem with camp mats.

I have a problem with cold air beds - once I'm cold I cannot get warm, cannot sleep and then in a foul mood!! Last year our Witsun holiday was cold ...

With some advice from this website - I'm going to use this year camp mats with a cheap picnic rug underneath the air bed with a blanket and top sheet on top - together with two sleeping bags and our knitted blanket.  Then I'm wearing a pair of jogging bottoms, socks and a long sleeve t-shirt.  I should now be very snug - if not a bit sweaty!

Hi

was looking in to this a few months ago and got some very good replies ,  But some advice from a fellow biker, really helped, it was using a roll of thermal insulation used in under laminate flooring for sound and thermal insulation (from B&Q £9.99 for quite a long roll. Its light, can cut it to lenghts you want, and it definatly works as we tried it a few weeks ago, its also cheaper than many other options.
