Just come back from what could have been a disaster camping trip not just one thing went wrong but loads more on them on another thread....My main concern is that one of the tent poles that holds up the bedroomsection of the vango 900 has split not sure why it was a little windy but not too excessive have not had it a year plus just  noticed as well it has torn at the bottom of the outer tent as you walk into the canopy bit ....would you complain or is it just one of those things wear and tear have only used it 4 times in total still have the receipt thanks anyone who can help

Poles split with monotonous regularity and IMHO it`s just part of the wear and tear on a tent, especially if you`ve put it up in windy conditions. You can buy tent repair kits and spare pole sections in any camping shop...it`s worth learning how to do it and to carry a spare (of each size your tent needs) on every trip. Check the rest of your poles too...white stripes indicate the fibreglass is starting to fracture. And remember you can fracture poles by dropping the pole bag on the ground or packing the kitchen sink on top of them in the car boot...or doing what my Hubby did on one trip with a brand new tent and standing on a section. (We had a spare....)

As to the tear...well, without seeing it exactly, it`s hard to say whether it`s fair wear and tear or a fault. Tents are actually quite fragile objects and certainly don`t achieve full stength untill they`re properly up and fully guyed. Even then you can tear them quite easily, by stepping on the edge or letting the cat climb the tent!

By all means though take it back to the retailer and let them have a professional look at it. I very much doubt you`ll get a refund or replacement, but they might do you a repair as a courtesy.

As Val said poles do go all the time as they are often under a lot of stress holding up the tent canvas. However, Vango offer a lifetime guarantee on all of their tents and if you take it back to the retailer with your receipt you should at least get the tent repaired FOC. If it does prove to be a manufacturing issue it is not unheard of for Vango to offer a replacement.

Hi juless,  we have also just got back from our first trip with our vango killington 900 & also 1 of the main poles split + the flysheet ripped after zipping the side door closed . I had to stitch it up & seal it , whilst we were there .  Our old tent the suncamp 3000 is better constructed .  I dont think this tent is ment to last , which is a shame , as when its up it looks good & has loads of good features .

Hi nanook

sorry to worry you about the Killington , i dont like fiber flex poles & i think the quality of the materials is quite low . I would like to see it in some of the storms we have been in our suncamp , never know it might be fine . Apart from that it looks good & has loads of room .
