We've not got a SIG and when we were looking round the display tents we found those with SIGS to be very stuffy. I did worry that ours would be cold without the SIG but it was fine over Easter - its a personal thing - its best to go and look round some on display before you decide - there are for's and against on both SIG and non SIG models.

I am a great lover of SIGs, in-fact I wouldn't even consider a tent now that didn't have one, but thats just my opinion.

Having said that, and to answer your question, I stayed with a friend in his tent a little while ago which did not have a SIG, and I can honestly say I didn't really notice anything different in temperature.  But I did notice a lot more draughts than I get in my own tent.  But its very difficult to say as they are both very different tents.

Jo

Having had tents with both I can't really say I've noticed a difference in terms of warmth although one would expect the sewn-in ground sheet to provide some insulation from draughts. It also feels cosier because you can fully close up the tent. The sewn-in groundsheet also provides more protection from creep-crawlies and rain.

Cheers
Matt

I'm a big fan of SIG's too and wouldnt buy a tent without one for camping in the UK. Draught proof and creepy crawly proof.

we like the sig for draughtproofness(does this word exist) but be careful of the step when going in and out of the tent takes a little getting used to

SIG everytime. All i would say is make sure the tent does have plenty of ventilation vents and windows. Then you can control the  ventilation or draughts that you want. Ive gone for the Outwell Vermont which has a sig and part bathtub. Our first tent was the coleman sahara this had sig but the sides on the inner tent were all fine mesh and it was very draughty. Then had the Monty 6 it was great no draughts.

Ditto above.Ours is a pathfinder if you need extra ventilation just leave the inner curtains open being double walled aids air venting through tent, zip up if too draughty.Nobody likes spiders in my household!

Hi all.
The main benefit with a SIG. is no matter how hard it rains
you will stay dry in bed and if you keep the zip closed free from insects as well.

Rex
