I've just been told I will need to pay for two pitches for this tent !! at a cost of £44 per night !!....eeek....Am I right in saying the size of this tent is 5 x 7 metres, as that's what I told the site....
It seems to be a 'trend' that started a couple of years ago and now seems to be gathering pace... I know of two small 'farm sites' in Norfolk, that have stopped taking bookings for 'mega' tents this year...
Other sites are charging a 'premium' rate for large tents. You can understand to a certain degree, where once they could easily fit two tents, there can be a problem fitting one!... A 'mega' tent, plus day tent, plus car (and sometimes trailer too) takes up a huge amount of space on a small half acre 'farm site'...

I would tell them to get stuffed and find a sensible site.
Ok we have the hartford xxl and never paid for two pitches. I always let them know what tent in taking i also sometimes take the porch. there is a good thread on hear for camp sites that take large tents.
I've just been trying to arrange a weekend away with 7 families, two of which have "mega" tents. I have had trouble finding sites that will take them. One of the families even offered to pay for two pitches, but were not allowed to by one of the sites that I looked at. I have now found a site - Nethercourt - in Ramsgate that will take them. I can't understand it - a trailer tent can also be pretty big by the time you add an awning. This seems to be a treand that is spreading.
Good luck in finding somewhere you like that will take your tent!
We have only ever been asked once to pay for two pitches for our XXl. Needless to say we didn't stay there. There has been one or two sites that could not take our tent because their pitches were marked out and the tent would not fit.
thanks for your replies and link...I sent the site in question a reply telling them I had not had a problem before with this tent ( which we haven't ) and that I wasn't prepared to pay double pitch price ( which I'm not ! )...perhaps they just thought they'd try it on....or is there some insurance/ health safety reason why they do this?....not that I can see one !
