hi i was wanting to test out my tent somewhere local to me and i have plumped for Brompton On Swale Caravan Park in you guessed it, brompton. iv e heard from a friend of a friend as you do that they were turned away from there last year because of their tent size. ive emailed site and am still waiting to hear back from them, but just wondered if anyone else had experienced problems there with large tents.my tent size is 7.7 metres by 7.7 metres,is this too large for most sites. please advise.thanks.

also if i cant get on there because of said tent, does anyone know any sites in north yorshire, thirsk area that they can reccomend. thankyou

No I havent BUT............I rang them about 3 weeks ago as I found the site on the campsite search, looked nice and my mum just lives a few miles away in Tunstall. Told them size of my tent (aprox 7 x 4m) and I was told that I would have to pay for 2 x pitches and the price came in at about £30 per night.(or maybe just over, cant quite remember??) Thought it was a tad too OTT seeing as though we are in low season. Gave it a miss and are looking to book at www.akebarpark.com Its where the UKcampsite meet is going to be at begining of June. Looks quite nice. Have been in the pub/restaurant before and its really nice and friendly so hoping that the caravan park will be just as nice. Hope this helps!

Claire.

recieved this reply from brompton caravan site this morning, so it looks that we wont be staying there.

Hi
We only take tents of less than 5.5m sq on one pitch as pitches are marked out.

However you can book two pitches but we do need meas. as we cannot have guy ropes encroaching on the next pitch or the tent going out onto the road.

Thankyou for your enquiry
Regards
Brompton caravan park

We have the Montana 6 and the Nebraska XXL and to be honest, at first we were worried we would never find a campsite willing to take the XXL. The Montana 6 was bought for the occasions we couldn`t get onto a campsite we particularly wanted to visit with the XXL.

To be honest the Montana 6 has been used twice and the XXL 6 times, so it goes to show that large tents are accpeted at a lot of campsites. We find you will have the most difficulty with a large tent if you are wanting EHU, without EHU most campsites are more flexible about size of tent.

We took the XXL to Spring Lea at Allonby in Cumbria, Craigielands in Moffat in Scotland, Park Foot at Pooley Bridge, Cumbria (limited EHU pitches available to take that size tent so book early) Naburn Loch in York, Skegness Water Leisure Park in Lincolnshire and recently to Fisherground in Eskdale, Cumbria. All campsites accomodated us on a EHU pitch and didn`t charge us for 2 pitches.

We prefer to use EHU, book in advance specifying the size of the tent and so far apart from one campsite that wanted to charge us for two pitches at over £50 per night !! (Stanwix Park in Silloth, Cumbria that we eventually visited twice with the Monty 6) we haven`t really encountered any problems getting in anywhere.

Scott + donna

Just booked Akebar park for 1st Bank hol weekend in May. Really helpfull young girl told me they dont have an issues/rules regarding "BIG" tents. Mine is 7.7m x 4.15 and they had absolutely no concern about the size. Would be worth bearing in mind as it doesnt look like you would have any problems at all there. Even better, Only going to cost £17 (inc electric) per night which I thought was really good seeing as though its over the Bank hol weekend.
