Well I do everything, organise the sites, book them, plan routes, buy all the equipment, load the car, drive and then when at campsite erect the tent and put everything inside, and no help from anyone....well I am single. And I've even organised a trip to France in a fortnight's time. At least you lot got company you can shout at, so stop moaning....

By the way last sentence said in jest, not having a go at anyone...lol

Oh wow, the blissful thought of a camping holiday in France on my own......*sigh*...

Last year another mum and I went on our own for three days of camping down in Cockermouth, to go to Woolfest. We got the Oregon 600 up in record time, set out the kit, sat down outside the tent....and just looked at one another. What to do now? No Hubby moaning because he couldn`t find the bottle opener, no kids tormenting each other and skinning their knees and demanding food...just us. We were at a total loss, I can tell you!

France on my own...oh well, its good to have a dream, no? Just me and a little pup tent and the Triangia....

We do share the tasks but there are some distinct biases-

As the admitted camping addict I am the one on here doing the research for sites. I do then discuss choices and we agree a plan - I then do the bookings. We don't co-habit and 90% of the kit is at my house, so I sort that out and get it ready. He tackles key matters like basic food, vital beer/wine and (for a long hol) his solar panels and battery set up (still in experimental stages..) he is also the chief entertainments officer, bringing mini hifi kit, music etc (and now he has bought me a travel guitar I can bring that for live music!)

He is a genius as packing the car so I leave that to him. He usually susses out routes and we share driving and navigation, swapping round on long journeys. I can be grumpy if we get lost, but he is remarkably calm about such matters.

Once there we put the tent up together and negotiate who does what as we go. It is truly rare for us to argue - I think this could be because we were best mates for 18 years before getting "romantically" involved so we generally respect each others ways of doing things.....novel I know, but it works for us!

Some slight differences can emerge when on hol - he maybe wants to "do" more stuff whereas I can veg out to Olympic standard, and not stray from a resting position (for several days!) as long as food, drink, book and music are to hand. But then I work up to a 70 hour week so hols are very much about R&R for me.

Packing up can make me grumpy again ( just cos I don't wanna go home!) but it has never been bad enough to lead to heated exchanges (though there is that certain look he gives me!) In fact, when we were packing up in Ireland last year, our neighbours we had becomes friendly with watched us and gave us a round of applause as they were astonished that we had done it all without falling out!

So are we unique? Does this make us boring? Will I still be saying all these nice things about him in 10 years time?.....answers on a postcard please..

If I didn't do the booking Charlie wouldn't bother and we'd go nowhere and he wouldn't mind.  I have to make him go away once a year virtually have to drag him kicking and screaming but he enjoys it once there.  Other times we go without him!  Definitely wouldn't hand him the paperwork, I keep everything and copies of everything safe.

I am definately the planner, I research all our holidays..camping and otherwise...OH pays! I also, pack and organise food.

Only been camping once so far, and I managed to forget the kids bedding!    So the OH went off to find some replacements c/o 24 hr supermarket. So I cant complain to much about him.
However, I do wonder sometimes if his lack of zeal to arrange family holidays has something to with us, as he does manage to organise the Boys Long Weekend every year without prompting!

OH wouldn't dare try and upstage my plans   I've got lists for everything, so he just shuts up until he finds something I forgot (which is very rarely) and only if he dares to mention it

I'm a bloke, a hard working builder, I cook all the meals, I see to all the bills, I see to my own business, I help with my kids, I organise holidays, I do what I can when I can. My good lady cleans , washes, irons and packs for holidays. See's to all the kids needs, school runs and many more so I think its fair. Its nothing we have agreed on, its just something we do but it works well. I suggest if your feeling a bit dumped on you should get your other half to read this and all all the other replies. I know so many blokes that do a simple 9hr at work and think thats there ticket to the pub and no responsability, they are the big losers in life. Working hard makes your holiday even better. Only if your happy!

Take care

John

Me...being the misses does the whole lot and I mean the lot!!!!

Planning, packing the car, driving to the site (well I booked it so I should be able to find it! he thinks)  My OH loves camping, he thinks we should go every weekend from mid april to october

If I had a fairy who did all the work I would like that too!  My OH will admit to new levels of thickness as far as tents etc. go  He can't even light a gas lamp never mind the tilley.  It seems that as I went camping as a nipper I know everything and he doesn't need to do anything other than turn up.

The upside is at least he can't argue or express an opinion therefore it may be hard work but at least theres no fighting

Shirley x

yep, I do the lot too.   Funny thing is, i was only thinkng the other day, it can take weeks to organise a holiday.  It's exhausting.  Perhaps if we didnt do it we wouldn't need the holiday and life would be a whole lot simpler. when I was a kid we only had 1x 2 week block a year (camping of course!)  but life was simpler (i don't remember my parents ever booking a campsite,  they just turned up!)

I wouldn't want the wife doing it anyway. I love trailing thro' the site reviews, picking one out, getting the directions planned.

Then I go and pack the car, ONLY I know where everything is and what everything is for.

Wifey will pack her own clothes and do the food shop B4 we go...

The planning and packing is the start of the holiday !!

Only thing Ali does is some of the driving down to Dover - she refuses to drive "on the wrong side" so I have to do all the continental stuff.

I do the planning/booking and the packing (if I let her do it we would need a removal van!)

On arrival at the site it becomes a team effort - I put up the tent - she goes in search of cold beers.
