We had a siamese cat that could do that - braced her feet and pow!  Once ate a whole cooked chicken at one sitting!  We had to get a child lock (years before we had a child!)

It's all fun and games! I took my three with me last year to Woodland Waters. I shared a three bed tent with my labradoodle Muppet (or should I say doodlphant) mini goldendoodle Fudge, and Lola my very yappy cockapoo. However they seemed to have settled by night two! I would suggest the corkscrews are a real MUST and a decent sized tent!!!
I now have a larger tent that I can stand up in and the dogs aren't on top of each other bless them!

Mine loves camping, however, I am glad his first trip was with me and my late partner (his dad) and not just on my own. We took his small collapsible metal crate for him to sleep in at night in the living area of the tent. However, it was soon evident to us that he could be trusted to sleep next to us without the crate.

After his death I decided to continue camping on my own and took him with me.

The tent I was using did not have a SIG, and he would try and dig himself out to see what was going on outside, very nosey and typical of a Border Terrier.

So I would zip him up inside the inner tent while I go to the shower block. He did not try and claw his way out, quite unusual for a BT as he does not appear to like to dig much.

He was and still is, tethered when outside the tent. However, he can roam freely inside the tent.

I lost him once on a camp site as he bolted out of the door to chase rabbits before I had time to hook him to his lead for his last wee for the night, and spent a good 15min or so looking for him without success, as it was dark and I was not able to shout for him.

So I headed back to the tent with a heavy heart, in the hope he would find somewhere warm to sleep for the night.

To my delight and annoyance, I found him waiting outside the tent for me, with an expression as if to say, "Well mum, what took you so long?"

I was so pleased to see him all was forgiven!

Nowadays, I make sure he is hooked up to the lead before I open the tent door.

He loves sharing my cooked breakfast and other food, especially BBQs, when he goes camping with me.

We don't have a dog but go camping with friends who have one, and he loves it. Most times, at least half of those there have dogs too, and I've never seen any bother.

Just don't do what a family on our site did this weekend - went out for the day leaving their two little dogs tied up in their trailer tent. The poor mites yapped and yapped and yapped, and really weren't happy. The site owner had to ring them and ask them to come back for them.

Ive just taken my 7 month old mini dach for 2 nights for the first time this weekend. She wasnt sure at first and struggled with the whole going to the toilet thing as shell only do her business in the garden at home - even on a day out she holds it til she gets home...she only did 2 poos while we were away, and looked so happy to see her garden at home!

She also discovered her bark which was annoying for me, but cos she's little she want really any trouble to our neighbours.

She was sick too after eating leftovers on the floor from the kids...luckily it wasn't in the tent tho!

All good fun, but I'd be ok about taking her again

We went last weekend without the dogs, because we wanted to ride our bikes with our son in the new forest, but we all missed the dogs terribly and kept wishing they were with us :( plus if we did have them, there is no way the family who moved in right on our pitch, would have dared come so close! They might as well slept in our tent!

Hello all
I was a member on here some years ago and have just rejoined. I have gained a dog since I was last here and haven't taken her camping yet. She is a sweetie and not yappy but at home if she hears voices outside at night she will bark (we live close to the high street hence lots of drunk people walking past in the early hours). I don't dis courage her just in case we do ever have any unwanted visitors but am starting to worry this could cause problems on a campsite!

The only way to find out is to go camping for a short trip with the dog and see how it gets on.

Good luck!

I have a six year old springer and a greyhound have never thought of taking them camping as I feel the springer would bark at all the other dogs and kids going past the tent and with 4kids we wouldn't be able to enjoy days out with the kids. I miss the dogs a lot tho and am looking forward to seeing them this afternoon when we get home from our camping trip. Maria

We take ours when we go and when we are around the unit she loves to sit in the boot of the car and watch the world go by and hope people will stop and say "hi" to her.

Hi
We also let the dogs sit in the open boot plenty of shade , we bought a nylon washing line cut 10 foot lengths tied the leads to the tow bar.

That way they can move about but get to there water and shade but not chase squirrels across the site.

John
