Im looking for some sleeping bags of got my eye on vango nitestar 250 and was wondering if anybody has any reviews about them or any other sleeping bags that you recommend?
We have Vango Nitestar 300XL squares and vango Astal Squares as none of us like the restriction of a mummy bag. Some say that these large envelope bags are not so good at retaining the heat but on the occassions that we have used them we have found them to be very comfy. Obviously the only downside with these bags is the size but we tend to use them as pillows or cushions on those longer journeys. I think you will find that the Vango sleeping bag range is quite good and its worth spending that little extra for the quality.
My son has both a Nitestar 250 and a 350. I bought him the 350 at the end of last year when he told me that though the 250 was more than fine on a summer trip and for France, he got a bit cold in it at this time of year.
He`s not a boy that really feels the cold so I paid attention. He just spent last Saturday night sleeping in a caravan awning (with no inner tent) on a sleepover with one of his pals and was nice and snug in the 350. So obviously the 350 is quite a bit warmer. I bought my daughter a Nitestar 350W (the shorter womans version) last year too, in the same sale.
I personally hate mummy bags and Hubby and I have Vango Astral 350s. Vangos are well worth the money.
I bought the vango mummies and found them a bit restrictive...but i have big shoulders. My Mrs is ok in the 350 but i think i will get a square one or maybe take the quilt as it warms up abit...my advice is to buy a square one
We have the 300XL squares, son borrowed 1 to go away with the TA & said he was roasting in it at night then froze his a**e off when he stuck it out to cool down.
The kids and i all have Vango Astrals. I love mine and i have never heard a word of complaint from the kids about theirs. I really like the lining as well.
I bought these when we started camping and they've lasted 3 years so far. The kids didn't want Mummies as they both seem to move around a lot when sleeping, though luckily not so far as the next tent.

I just must add that I`m of the opinion that children stay much warmer in mummy bags. Less dead air space to warm up. But of course some kids are more fidgity than others.
Val is quite right to say that mummy bags are the warmest and indeed excellent insulators. But having said that we have tried them and find them too restricting, we use readybeds and with the advice of some very useful info from this site, we now have a versatile kit that keeps us warm where ever we go by adding or removing layers as necessary. At the end of the day comfort is the overriding factor for anyone so choose wisely, always a good thing to get inside a potential purchase to try it out. Proper camping shops will let you do this. Happy Camping whatever you decide.
As we've both (the misses and i) had mummy bags and square bags and both like mummy bags over square bags we is gonna stick with the mummy bags and it looks as if we should look at the vango bag judging by how many of you recommend them.
