Hello again!

Anyone bought a Vango canopy for their tent yet? They're new to the market. Two sizes.

Any observations?

Yup, bought a large one a couple of weeks ago along with our new tent(Diablo 900), however last weekend when we tested the tent in the back garden, there wasn't enough room to fit the canopy on! Will be trying it for real in a couple of weeks if you can wait that long?

When I first heard about these at the start of the year I got very excited, given my collection of Vango tents. Then later I found out the canopies only fit certain tents, mostly the big ones with tunnel porches whereas I wanted one to fit the side door of my Vango Oregon.

Now, I`ve got nothing against big tents having canopies to make them even bigger. But it`s a bit unfair when in fact it would be even more useful, relatively speaking, for small to middle sized tents to have the option of a little more space too. Or is that some sort of cunning marketing ploy to encourage us to buy a bigger tent in the first place?

Looking at the small side canopy the other day in outdoor megastore. Theres no specific fixing for this canopy. The top part just flies over the top of the tent and is secured with two guys on the opposite side. Dont really see any reason why it wouldnt fit an oregon, it may not follow the shape of the tent exactly but with the top part flying over its still gonna keep the rain out. Just a thought!!!

I have the Coleman sun canopy that was released last year that fixes on much like you describe. IF you can get it over, which is nigh impossible if there`s more than a gentle waft of breeze. I was hoping for something a little more user friendly from Vango, designed to fit the Oregon in a more solid fashion. But no. If you check the Vango website, you`ll find a list with illustrations as to which tents the canopies will fit. I don`t see either being any more reliable than the Coleman...which, incidentally, is designed to fit along the side of a tunnel tent.

Your comment about keeping the rain off? These are all sold as SUN canopies, not rain protection. I wouldn`t have left the Coleman one up when I was either asleep or off site. I don`t think Vango claim that their canopies are meant for poor weather conditions either. (Though as their web site is down YET AGAIN, I can`t check the exact wording.)

We use the Coleman canopy with our Vango Oregon and it fits well. We use it as a rain shield so that the rain isn't running down the doorway. When it was very windy last year we were worried about it taking off. So we pulled it further over the tent and flattened it down a bit tighter with the guy ropes ( hence the funny looking shape of it in the gallery photo).. add a couple of Delta pegs and it's steady as a rock
